NATO aims to 'destabilise' Caucasus with Georgia drills: Moscow

Moscow (AFP) - Russian foreign ministry on Friday accused NATO of seeking to destabilise the Caucasus region with upcoming joint exercises in Georgia, where US soldiers will train together with Georgian forces this month.

"We view this consistent 'development' of Georgian territory by NATO soldiers as a provocative move, aiming to deliberately destabilise the military-political situation in the Caucasus region," it said in a statement.

Moscow and Tbilisi fought a brief war in 2008 due to a dispute regarding South Ossetia, a separatist region of Georgia which is funded and backed by Russia.

After the war, Russia recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia, another breakaway Georgian territory, as independent states and stationed permanent military bases there.

I can't imagine a cogent argument that makes a case that the US has an interest, any interest, in Georgia.

And NATO is holding military exercises there.

The US should just notify NATO they all have 5 years to attain 2-3% of GDP in defense spending because the alliance is no longer relevant.

And then leave.

Wonder how America would feel with Russia holding military exercises in Mexico?

If you wanted proof that the rogue US national security establishment is purposely antagonizing Russia (and thus damaging US national security by creating a powerful enemy), there it is.

NATO is a war bureaucracy searching for a war, even if it has to start one.

You ever get the feeling that the US Government is utterly spoiling for a war with Russia, in their backyard, and are convinced It’ll all stay conventional?

If Russia wants to annex Georgia, by all means allow them to do that! It’s not worth risking a nuclear war over. Sucks for the Georgians and I sympathize with them but life is tough.

The state department has been trying to start a war with Russia for years and they almost got one over the Ukraine. We think waged a fiscal war on Russia that played right into Putin's plans to end free trade with the west in order to develop native indrustry again.

I think it’s exactly the opposite. He is expanding NATO right up to their border. He is working to destabilize them and have one of those color revolutions inside Russia.
He almost did it, but then Putin kicked out all NGOs and ruined the plan.

But Obama the lunatic is on the attack. It started with him pushing the homo agenda. We got along very well with Russia under Bush.

As far as surrendering to Russia, they aren’t attacking us anywhere on earth. They have exactly two military bases outside the former USSR. Both in Syria. We have over a thousand. The NWO will not rest until Russia is brought under the western bankers control.

our sending military into there without legitimate cause or reason... is indeed highly provocative
and probably can come to no good

just like the last dozen Obama-created invastions and wars and ‘destabilizations’ of innocent or at least non-threatening countries

he is a big-time war-maker... and usually on the wrong, anti-American side too

I only say that because of 0bama’s handing Syria to Russia. 0bama fueled Syria, mucked it up, and left the field to Russia. I see that as renunciation of US power in the ME.

Couple that with recalcitrance and appeasement toward Iran and paltry military support against ISIS-including the killing of our SEALS, even this week-and I see 0bama the Coward running away like the defective dwarf in “300.”

He is a destroyer. He was put in power to destroy the US. To have some kind of dustup with Russia would permit him to expend armaments that leave us without replacements and thus, open to Russia the way Napoleon was. 0bama would take us too far so that we WOULD be wiped out.

Completely agree with your assessment -
Obola, Soros, and NWO seek to neutralize US military, geo-political and economic influence.
What better way to achieve those goals than diminishing our dollar (via debt & fiat QE), military capability and foreign policy moral authority.

Obola is wrecking so much global havoc, I now can see the day the world sighs with relief when this nation falls / is a smoking hole, considering our CIA created ISIS and that action accelerated the Syrian / ME Muslim invasion of Europe.
The Swedes, Germans, French, Norwegians and Brits are having their culture wiped out as a result of the US deliberately stirring up muslim scorpion nests in Egypt, Libya, Syria and Iraq.

Hand Syria to Russia? It has been a Russian ally for over 40 years. We decided to replace Assad with wahabbist theocrats so we organized, armed, and funded the opposition.
It was exactly what we did in Egypt and Libya.

Thank God Putin stopped Obama from attacking. There is not a single legal or moral reason for us to be there. No UN authorization. No declaration of war. Not even a fig leaf of a NATO authorization. No war powers act notification.
The ONLY legal structure was an authorization of force if Assad gassed his people.
The rebels immediately gassed themselves and called for the F-18s.
Assad and Putin called BS, and Assad asked Russia to remove all the gas weapons they had. There was a national groundswell in America to not attack. Obama was defeated and backed down.

But in any case. Putin bombed the snot out of the jihadis and the Syrian army was able to retake places like Palmyra. Russia all but destroyed ISIS in Syria. Would you oppose that? Who did Russia bomb in Syria that you think are ok guys?

It isn’t fun to face. But in Syria, WE were the bad guys.

No. No one.

Syria’s a grade-A crap hole. Has some beautiful ancient sites, though.

0bama has us trying every possible way to be the bad guy in what might be everything.
