Joe Paterno was told as early as 1976 that former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky had sexually molested young boys according to a new report.
A child apparently reported to Paterno that he was sexually abused by Sandusky in 1976. This came to light via a court order during a related insurance coverage case involving Penn State. The line in the court order says the following:
in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSUs Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky.
The court order also cites references to incidents in 1987 and 1988 in which former assistant coaches observed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and unidentified children and another 1988 incident that was reported to Penn States athletic director at the time. All of the incidents are reportedly described in victims depositions that are currently under seal.
Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association Insurance Co. is arguing that it should not have to reimburse Penn State for the more than $60 million it has made in Sandusky-related settlements.
Paterno and Penn State apologists have argued for years that the school and the coach knew nothing of Sanduskys activities and that the community as a whole was deceived. But it is getting harder and harder to defend the coach and the school as more allegations come to light. There seem to have been dozens of chances along the way to stop Sanduskys horrific actions if they had just been followed up on.
Paterno family attorney Wick Sollers responded to the latest news:
Over the past four-and-a-half years Joe Paternos conduct has been scrutinized by an endless list of investigators and attorneys.
Through all of this review there has never been any evidence of inappropriate conduct by Coach Paterno. To the contrary, the evidence clearly shows he shared information with his superiors as appropriate.
An allegation now about an alleged event 40 years ago, as represented by a single line in a court document regarding an insurance issue, with no corroborating evidence, does not change the facts. Joe Paterno did not, at any time, cover up conduct by Jerry Sandusky.
Penn States own hired independent investigator, Louis Freeh, found that Paterno and former Penn State president Graham Spanier were aware of the complaints against Sandusky starting in at least 1998. Spanier and two of his former aides have a criminal case pending in which they are accused of failing to report an allegation of abuse by Sandusky in 2001.
Lawrence Lokman, a spokesman for Penn State, claims the university is aware of the latest allegation and that the school will not respond to specific circumstances related to ongoing cases.
Had a roommate who played for Paterno. It was well known that Paterno ran the football facilities like his own fiefdom. You may want to believe that Paterno wasn’t ignorant of Sandusky’s crimes, but that would have been impossible given the flagrant nature of Sandusky’s abuse.
What did Gricar know and when did he know it?
But that's just it - the abuse wasn't flagrant, it was secret. The student football player that finally broke the story declared he was shocked by what he saw. So it wasn't common knowledge nor routine knowledge. Sandusky hid it.
Perhaps not let him use the university facilities for his trysts with 10 year old boys? Perhaps tell Jer he was no longer allowed at Penn State football functions, especially when he would sit on the dais with young boys as his dates. Young boys he shared a hotel room with upstairs.
Just sayin' WHAT?
Have you listened to or read anything at the website I suggested. If not, I would think you should shut up. After you listen to one or two things and go hunting around for yourself to determine if what is said there is BS or accurate, then get back to me.
FTR, I never though Joe P. was guilty of anything, but I sure suspected Sandusky (and was very glad that UVa didn't hire him) but that was then. Now I think all the charges against him are completely bogus; and not so different from the Amerault case. (Do-gooders can only go for so long without making up the evils they want to protect all of us from.)

Where is that former pedophile defender; fljoepa?
Who was looking over the free trips for the children at the bowl games?
And this info comes from where?
It is reasonable to any of us who routinely change our schedules, but JoePa was not one of those men. He stayed on schedule as though he had OCD. What that reporter discovered was an anomaly that had never happened before, and never happened again. JoePa knew. He did everything in his power to keep it from becoming public knowledge.
Isn’t there still a missing DA and his hard drive?
PING!
Indeed!

I think their new chant should be “We Are.......Ped State!”
Talked about cult of personality. They act like Paterno cured cancer, instead of coaching a playground game and enabling access to boys for a pedophile.
I agree Sandusky did it, and where he did it. What is also known is that Paterno’s schedule was rigid, and known by Sandusky. So of anyone, Sandusky would be the one who could work around it.
If Paterno exposed Sandusky when he found out, that would not have negatively impacted the Penn State Football program. To the contrary, it would have held up Paterno as morally strong. And no one, to my knowledge, ever accused Paterno of molestation himself. So where’s the motive to hide anything? Paterno would have had more of a motive to expose it.
I was 18 when Paterno was offered a million bucks to coach the NE Patriots. Big bucks in those days. He turned it down. Having an influence in a young mans life when he first leaves home meant more than a million dollars to him. I wasn’t smart enough to go to college but playing for him would have made a big difference in my life. These disclosures are very unfortunate and leave me big time disappointed in him.
Who do you think were the beneficiaries of this unholy scheme, to introduce low income minors to pedophiles who could elevate their life? It has long been rumored that PSU had a pipeline to DC for providing such services.
I don’t think it was unknown. Sandusky was considered Joe’s heir apparent, and one of the top assistant coaches in the game. Then he suddenly walks away from the game. More telling, several college coaches are fired every year, and Sandusky’s name never came up. Nobody wanted him. Nobody asked.
I believe it was an open secret, that Sandusky was radioactive.
