Russell Moore says the belief that the United States is a Christian nation in the respect of being a divinely ordained country is "theological liberalism."
In a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday, the head of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention tackled the question of whether or not the U.S. is a Christian nation.
"If what you mean by that is a nation in which most of the people profess to be Christians, then certainly the United States of America was and is a Christian nation," said Moore.

With only a few exceptions, the founding fathers were Christians - Benjamin Franklin was a devout Deist. The Constitution is based on Christian tenets.
If we are a Christian nation, where are the signs? If we are a Christian nation, why is it accepted to have men dressed as women using the ladies’ restroom? If we are a Christian nation, how do Democrats get elected? How did Obama get a second term? Why is abortion widely accepted? Why are homosexuals given state support in driving Christians out of business?
We WERE a Christian nation. We ARE an apostate nation. If you have any doubt, turn on a TV and see what sells...
However, some people, ignorant of the meaning of words, call it a Christian nation because the majority of the people are nominally Christian.
The US is officially not a Christian theocracy. OTOH, the US is officially not antiChristian, either. There can be a Christian theology which opposes theocracy, whether Christian or not. In fact, The Baptist Faith and Message - a pamphlet of the Southern Baptist Convention - takes exactly that position. By that standard, the US is about as Christian as a country can be.
That’s not the context I used the phrase “state churches” in.
Unfortunately this promotes religious subjectivism.
I thought it was a Christian nation before I became a Christian....Heck I even thought i was one of them
“We WERE a Christian nation. We ARE an apostate nation”.....
Only because WE allow it to happen. Now that we have a potential president that tells it like it is, I believe things may just turn back the right, WITH GOD’s HELP. We, you, me and all Christians need to MAKE IT HAPPEN. We are the majority and have failed to hold onto what was great about this country. WE let that happen. The fools that are giving into the “off the wall” B.S. need to be cast aside.
