This is a cartoon by Rick Friday of Farm News, a weekly magazine published by
The Fort Dodge Messenger,
And as a result, Rick is no longer “of Farm News”. He posted on Facebook,
I am no longer the Editorial Cartoonist for Farm News due to the attached cartoon which was published yesterday. Apparently a large company affiliated with one of the corporations mentioned in the cartoon was insulted and cancelled their advertisement with the paper, thus, resulting in the reprimand of my editor and cancellation of It’s Friday cartoons after 21 years of service and over 1090 published cartoons to over 24,000 households per week in 33 counties of Iowa.
I did my research and only submitted the facts in my cartoon.
That’s okay, hopefully my children and my grandchildren will see that this last cartoon published by Farm News out of Fort Dodge, Iowa, will shine light on how fragile our rights to free speech and free press really are in the country.
Remember, apparently it’s only censorship when the government does it. According to people who don’t look the word up in the dictionary.
The Des Moines Register reports that Farm News publisher “couldn’t say… why Farm News would no longer run Friday’s cartoons, adding that it was an editorial decision” and that editor Larry Kershner “said he couldn’t comment about the decision.” But also that “DuPont and Monsanto officials said the companies were unaware of the cartoon until the media brought it to their attention.”
Rick has a few new cartoons for this week.
Big Government Cronyism is exactly what is wrong with the Farming industry.
Kudos to the Cartoonist.
Class warfare leftist crap.

I like this one, You can't eat herbicide, seed corn or tractor parts either.
I remember a time in this country when comics were funny. Also a time when people knew the dangers in biting the hand that feeds you. Alas!
No, it’s a slap at crony capitalism.

Always know who your true customer is. This guy didn’t know that, and got fired.
Also, is the editor still employed there?
It is getting tough to obtain unbiased information. Government and big business control TV, print media and even web sites. Look at National Review.
It was a slap at the people who pay for the cartoon. It was a slap at the people who pay for the magazine (the advertisers, not the subscribers).
It was a silly stunt, and an educational one for many.
A refusal to kowtow to huge corporations doesn’t equal leftism. In fact major corporations are often the driving force behind leftist policies. It isn’t small farmers threatening North Carolina over their refusal to get in line with the LBGT agenda.
This is not a ‘Free Speech’ issue.................
The man’s got talent. And compared with some cartoonists his stuff seems pretty mild. Go back to Nast and his portrayals of Boss Tweed or Herb Bloch and his war against Nixon. Or that a$$hole Trudeau and Doonesbury. But yeah, attacking the people who pay the money that goes into your salary is sort of career suicide.
The guy with the Farm News armband in the 2nd picture looks a lot like Hitler.
FU FARM NEWS
Q: What do you call a bunch of farmers in a basement?
A: A whine cellar.
Farmers complain about everything.
I had a roommate one winter term whose family had been farming the same land for 150 years, ‘The farmers share of a loaf of bread has not gone up in 150 years,’ he complained to me once.
‘So?’ was my answer.
‘A farmer can’t make it,’ he stated.
‘Does you family still pull a plow with a horse? Have your yields per acre gone up in the last 150 years?’
‘Huh?’
‘Have your yields gone up over the last century or so?’
‘You think you know everything. Farmers just can’t make it. It’s been like that for decades.’
‘Your family must have been billionaires if you have been loosing money every year for 150 years...’
Then I told him the above joke. As Yoda would say: redneck mad was he.
how fragile our rights to free speech and free press really are in the country.
Yep.
“Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one”
-Ben Franklin
I blame Lincoln.
