A couple of days ago, on 27 April, 2016, an 11 year old boy in Alabama shot a burglar. From wvtm12.com:
Home school student Chris Gaither, 11, was alone Wednesday morning when he heard a noise. Someone had broken into his house and walked upstairs. Gaither said he was scared, but wanted to be prepared so he grabbed a nine-millimeter hand gun.
When he was coming down the stairs, thats when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that, Gaither said.
The pistol would not have been useful to Chris Gaither if it had been rendered useless by stupid gun technology.
While children using guns defensively are a small fraction of defensive gun uses, they are far more common than gun accidents involving children.
The reasons are clear and simple. Most children who have guns in their home have responsible adults who teach them the safety rules, keep the guns under control when the children are young, and teach the children to shoot when they are old enough to understand.
Mandated smart but actually stupid gun technology is meant to shortcut this time tested and effective method of gunproofing children. It will only affect those who need it least, those who are the most responsible in society. Gun owners who are meticulous about obeying laws are some of the most responsible members of society.
We know this from data about gun carry permit holders. They have gone to some trouble to obey the law. Police commit crimes at a rate of 6-10 times as often(pdf) as concealed carry permit holders.

Reality does not fit in the leftist world view.
The Democrats know that criminals would win if “smart” guns were the only guns allowed. Right now, America’s liberals are in mourning that an intelligent and quick-thinking young man ended the life of yet another criminal.
Step 1 is to require it on new guns.
Step 2 is to mandate that only “smart” guns can be legally possessed.
So, two short steps to universal confiscation of the existing 300 million guns in private hands.
And Hitlery will say with a straight face “we’re not going to ban guns, we just want to promote safety.”
“The Democrats know that criminals would win if smart guns were the only guns allowed.”.........
They will believe that until the day they themselves become “victims” of some armed aggressor and they were unable to shoot to save themselves.
This Boy needs a place of Honor at the FR Shoot Out.
I meant my statement more in the sense of “Democrats love smart guns because they are the ones committing or profiting off of home invasions/crime”.
I am prepared to defy the powers to be as is all of my family.
Just this morning there was a warning from Edward Snowden that cell phones, iPads and whatnot can be used for tracking entire populations. And we’ve heard for years that the government can remotely control the function of those electronic devices, like listening in to conversations and turning on cameras.
Now they want us to put electronics into our guns?
Does anybody else see a possible connection here?
If I hear a noise at night and want to investigate, I do not want to look for batteries for a gun that hasn’t been used in 2 years. It hard enough to remember to change the smoke alarm battery when they chirp, because my kids have usually used up all the batteries in the house for their hand held video games.
A gun is neither smart nor stupid. Calling it that doesn’t make it true. A gun is a tool. A tool is used by a human to perform some task. The task can be constructive or destructive. No amount of technology can force the tool to be used only for constructive purposes.
Another thing about “smart” guns. They fire only in the hands of the official “owner.” What if the official “owner” chooses to use the gun to commit a crime? The “smart” gun does whatever he wants.
Liberals refuse to accept the obvious fact that right or wrong is determined by a human in a deliberate act of the will who chooses right or wrong. Not by an object.
“Liberals refuse to accept the obvious fact that right or wrong is determined by a human in a deliberate act of the will who chooses right or wrong. Not by an object.”
That is an astute observation. I believe they do so because they do not wish to be held accountable for their own actions.
Acknowledging one’s own sin is the start to accepting Jesus.
