Now that Donald J. Trump is the presumptive presidential nominee, a parade of prominent Republican leaders is breaking with the traditions and rituals of party unity and offering him a blunt message:
Nope. Never. I can’t. I won’t.
In a flurry of social media posts and interviews over the last 24 hours, these Republicans raced to distance themselves from Mr. Trump, delivering a remarkable rebuke to him at precisely the moment when parties usually coalesce around a candidacy.
Mark Salter, a longtime strategist for Senator John McCain of Arizona, sounded resigned and disgusted as he said the unthinkable: He was now prepared to back Hillary Clinton.
“The GOP is going to nominate for President a guy who reads the National Enquirer and thinks it’s on the level,” he wrote on Twitter late Tuesday. “I’m with her.”
The dissenters, who range from wizened elders to younger strategists and even elected officials, are loudly and publicly proclaiming their unwillingness to support Mr. Trump.
Many have expressed reservations about him in the past, but left open the possibility they might back him in the future. Now they are forcefully foreclosing that option.

Can we expect to see this same headline when Clinton wins the corrupt Democratic primary system? I believe there is a "Bernie or Bust" movement that is parallel to the Never Trump movement.
I suspect the NY Times will not report on that, though.

Just like with McCain and Romney I didn’t feel I could cast a vote for them. But by time November came around, the mindless minions on the left, and the national media had made the ability to cast my vote for the GOP nominee palatable. I am assuming that will be the case with Trump as well. Good thing the general election is not today because I could not do it. I will be watching and listening, we know how he likes to play up to his audience, lets see where he goes now that conservatives are not his only audience now.
If everybody that plans sit out found somebody to support it would make a much more powerful statement in the long run.

Here it the situation though: Cruz was more of the same. Might be good on social conservative themes and on the border, but here was going to be no major shake-up of the globalist economic view that is killing the middle class and their kids chance for a decent life. No challenge to the politically correct speech codes that are starting to make this country resemble a soft totalitarian nation. No challenge to rather incestuous political scheme where folks go into government serve at salaries of 170,000 dollars, supposedly because they have to maintain 2 households, but by the time they retire in 15 years they have estates worth 5 to 25 million dollars. The most wealthy counties are now those dominated by government employees. All because of officially allowed corruption, much of which is why both parties were open borders, globalist economic worldview.
Trump promises favorable actions in all these things. If he does not deliver, well we are not worse off than if we went with the establishment figure. If he changes things for the better in a few areas, well we have a chance to save the country. Yes he is a risk, but if you are 6 points behind at the 55 second mark and on the opponents 35 yard line on the 4th down, you do not kick a field goal; you take a risk and try to win.
I do understand those who find trump hard to stomach because he is center left on a lot of social issues. Well the ugly truth is to make a correction on any one of these items, we need to build a new coalition, the existing one the republicans have is too small. Further most of these issues have been pushed by the supreme court, frankly that institution cannot be saved by putting in new folks, it must be reformed by a constitutional change. We are far from that now. Trump offers a chance of a political realignment, much like occurred in 1865, 1932 1964 and 1980. Such a realignment, along with some sort of religious value revival is the only possibility of making the long term social conservative changes some folks wish for. It is years ahead of us, at best.
In any case a vote for Hillary or sitting out this election is a mistake. Hillary is so counter western culture and so intent on various odd policies that she is almost a cheap pulp novel villain. For the good of the nation she must be defeated.
Don’t you get tired posting slurs and lies. Do you think we are so stupid as to believe you? Do real research rather than just searching until you can find someone telling you what you want to hear.
I’m sorry you are hurt but Trump is not being paid by the Dems, his ideas are pragmatic not liberal or conservative and America has been starved for common sense and a true champion of American values for way too long. Trump is committed to changing all that and his is known for delivering on his commitments.
Washington is a pit of depravity, every one of the recent conservative “champions” has sold out immediately, like Paul Ryan. There was no one else in this election cycle who wouldn’t have become mired down by partisan politics and commitments to their donors. Trump has put real change in play and spent his money, time and put himself on the line to give America that chance. Nay saying comes natural to some people but clarity, perspective re the lack of available alternatives and the clarion call of America’s degradation and imminent threats should trump the familiarity and comfort of casting aspersions from the sidelines.

Sorry you are suffering. Trump did not lie about Cruz. Cruz did lie about Trump repeatedly and flagrantly and there are internet compilations to prove it. Trump did not attack Cruz’s family. Retweeting an image of Cruz’s wife is not an attack; she is in the public arena and has frankly looked worse on many occasions. Talking about her record as a globalist is relevant not an attack. It is a typical Cruz maneuver to accuse your opponent of doing the things you are doing yourself to deflect criticism and control the narrative.
People that take the time to read the actual statements and listen to the complete interviews are not fooled.
