Narcissists typically leave a trail of dysfunctional social chaos among their families, friends, and workplaces. Whereas Trump’s social ties appear to be remarkably stable over the course of many decades.
For this and other reasons, I can’t really buy into the narcissist claim much.
That is because Trump only appears to be a narcissist in his public persona. From what I read from the people who actually know him personally he is not a narcissist at all, and actually quite the opposite, a very giving person.
People who call Trump a narcissist simply have no idea what the term means. It is a serious Personality Disorder that Trump shows no sign of.
Trump is a showman who has created a larger than life public persona. Some see this in the context of his Trump brand, understand Trump’s Art of the Deal approach to situations, and don’t mind or actually like this persona. Some people purely hate it. But like, love, hate or couldn’t care less about it, it’s leagues away from narcissism.

Cruz is the narcissist. Trump is just a likable egomaniac, or perhaps a mega-promoter of his brand.
