Chris Hayes has established a new standard. It is henceforth fair game to say on national TV of any parent who has spanked his child that such parent "hits his kids." Hayes employed the inflammatory formulation on his MSNBC show this evening. Hayes played a clip of a child in a Cruz audience telling him "you suck" and Cruz responding "in my household, when a child behaves that way, they get a spanking." Proclaimed Hayes portentously: "I should note it's a matter of public record by Ted Cruz that he hits his kids."
Okay then, so Hayes has equated a spank, which can be more symbolic than real, with a "hit." Would Hayes encourage the next reporter who interviews Hillary to ask if she ever spanked her daughter, or was ever spanked herself, and in any case how she views the issue? What about Barack and Michelle Obama? This is absurd--and despicable.

In today’s world, are parents still allowed to spank children, otherwise be charged with child abuse? Serious question.....some of the stuff I hear about parents getting in trouble with any physical discipline of children is very troubling.
Fact is, and this is something every actual parent has known since the human race dropped out of the trees, children need hard borders. Strict limits. Moral guidelines with painful consequences. Anyone who’s critical can kiss my a$$.

Cruz spanks his five year old for lying, he should be proud, she has inherited his most obvious talent for doing the same.

Then Cruz uses it to immediately attack Donald Trump and make a statement that such values as “spanking” and respect are gone. Ironically, Rush’s show made a big deal out of how great of a statement that was by Ted Cruz.
Ted does not think on his feet that well- I’ve seen the interviews and he makes the same talking points over and over. It was way too scripted!

Agree with you 100%. As young’uns my kids got tapped on the butt when they did something wrong. As they got older, they were always well behaved. Could got to any fine restaurant with them. Never had a checkout meltdown like the brats of today.

Interesting enough—if the kid said “You Suck” to Ted Cruz—it wasn’t really an issue of lying.
