You may be right about that. My wife and I were coming home on I-5 last night about 10:00 p.m.. We were doing around 70mph which was 10mph over to keep up with traffic and people were still swerving in and out passing us and big trucks on both sides until I made back to the right lane. It was crazy.
Most of our driving in Oregon is in the Portland area and although the traffic is often bad, people do seem more considerate there. We did make a lot of trips to the Oregon coast when I was taking hang gliding lessons and we just loved it there.
One time my wife and I were flying back from California in our small airplane and she had needed to take a potty break. We landed at a small airport on the East side of I-5 somewhere south of Salem. While she was using the restroom, I asked the lady at the business on the airport if there was fast food nearby. She said, “Sure, there is a Kentucky Fried Chicken in town. It is about 3 miles that way.”
I must have looked a little disappointed. Then she said, “You can use my car. Don't worry about my dog, she doesn't bite.” I assumed it would be a beat up car with some sort of pit bull sitting in the back seat. It was actually a Cadillac with a well groomed poodle. I couldn't believe how friendly and trusting she was. My dad is from Eastern Washington people are friendly there, but not as friendly as in central Oregon judging from that experience.
Oregon gets a bad rap from the hysterical haters of the Willamette Valley. Feel free to bomb them with Snapple bottles full of urine the next time you fly over.
