I'm born again, the husband of one wife, father of five kids and legitimately and happily re-tired from the workforce for the last four years
I do not live in a state where my felonious status prevents me from voting, but if I was ... I'd register and vote anyway
To both of you fascists ... if I WAS in one of those states ... why, in your words, should I not exercise my right to vote ?
I've paid my dues ... many, many years ago
What do you think about my owning guns out here in rural podunk Pennsylvania ?
A felon can apply the have voting rights reinstated. In your case you would win.
The problem is the career criminals who should not be able to vote.
I agree, please see my post #10. I think those who’ve served their debt to society should have ALL their rights resored. You should be able to protect yourself and your family. That’s what happened to Sean Taylor; after doing something stupid, he was later unable to defend his own life.
Try to keep calm.
I said nothing about YOUR right to vote.
I’m sure Terry is really worried about your right to vote also. Nothing cynical or opportunist about his action here, no sir.
I don't see anything in my copy of the Constitution barring freed felons or even crazies from the right to keep and bear arms. Those who should not be armed should not be running around loose, and it sounds like you ain't them!
As for voting, seriously, how many of the real criminal class even think about voting? That would be an interesting statistic.
I would say this. You do have the right to vote and own guns only after at least 3 years of your release you haven't had any other incidents.
We all do stupid things, I know I did when I was younger. I was lucky the judge let me off with a misdemeanor charge.
Restoring a felons right to vote should be done not automatically, as soon as he has completed his sentence, but carefully, on a case-by-case basis, after he has shown that he has really turned over a new leaf. The unfortunate truth is that many people who walk out of prison will be walking back in; recidivism rates are high. We have both testified before Congress and written about this problem. Governor McAuliffe may be happy as long as the ex-felons who can now vote just dont walk back into prison before November. Having a waiting period, examining each ex-felons application for restoration of rights carefully and individually, and differentiating between violent and nonviolent crimes is exactly the system that Virginia had at least until Fridays order.
There is a process in most states where civil rights can be restored. But actions (stupid or not) have consequences. If a “foolish mistake” cost you your vision or a limb you can repent all day long and you don’t get it back. I told my children when in high school: “you may not know this, but you are making possibly permanent life decisions now”.
In this case however, Clinton shill TerryMac is brazenly seeking new Democrats. Like losing an arm or leg... once folks follow the Serpent and vote their sacred liberty birthright away for promises of “red pottage”... you don’t get them back.
