In Euro speak Far Right = nationalist. This guy walks around with a Glock. About as patriotic as one can get in Austria. The Presidency in Austria is as in most republican parliamentary countries ceremonial but still a devastating rebuke to the Austrian version of the so-called two party system which is more a Uniparty. The Austrians should have a real head of state and invite back the Habsburg-Lorraines.

Seizing? Sounds like they’re being properly elected to me.

Is it too late for Obama to fly to Austria and tell them what to do?

Wow! Seizing the presidency! Coup d’état?
I know the Austrians like most Europeans were upset with the open door policy for the “refugees”, but I never expected the complete over throw.
I thought they were having an election today. An election for presidency.
WOW!

Here he is toting his .38 caliber walking cane. Looks very dangerous and could probably go off any time.

How long until Merkel decides another Anschluss would be a good idea?

That's lib-speak.
Liberals are elected, conservatives seize power.
When liberals are elected, it's because they're hugely popular and it's the will of the people.
When conservative's score a big win, the voters are throwing a temper tantrum.
And don't forget, while there are "arch-conservatives" and "firebrand" Republicans, there are only "popular" or "crusading" Democrats and liberals.

Right. And this is from the Telegraph which is center-right. Imagine how the story is being reported in the Guardian.

Great news - looks like some nations in Europe are waking up to the Islamic menace even if belatedly. If this corresponds to a reduction in socialism and liberalism, that’ll be an added bonus.

Haven’t the events here in the US taught you that anytime “we, the people” elect anyone, it is “seizing” the government???

Last time the Germans did a military exercise they used broom handles instead of machine guns because they no longer had enough machine guns. A biker gang could beat the German military right now.

"Norbert Hofer, the gun-toting candidate of the Freedom Party"IIRC Austria is one of the few European countries (might be the only one actually) that recognizes the right to self-defense, and the process of getting a permit to own/carry firearms isn't too much different from some US states.

Guardian: "Austrian far-right party wins first round of presidential election"
Wins? Wins? Where is the sound of violence any time someone right of Lenin gets more votes?

Vienna is one of my favorite cities in the world, finally went there last year.
I think the ideal city to live in Europe for me would be Bratislava, in a Slavic country that still treasures European values, knowing that Vienna is only an hour away.
