Trump takes back claim he could eliminate national debt
The Hill ^ | 04/22/2016 | Harper Neidig

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump this week walked back his assertion that he could eliminate the country's debt after two terms as president.

In an interview with Fortune Magazine published Friday, Trump was asked how his pledge to pay off the $19 trillion debt in 10 years was possible. "No, I didn’t say 10 years," Trump responded. "First of all, with low interest rates, you can think in terms of refinancings, and get it down. I believe you can do certain things to pay off the debt more quickly. The most important thing is to make sure the economy stays strong. You can do it in smaller chunks. You can do it in larger chunks. And you can do it in refinancings."

Trump had, in fact, told The Washington Post editorial board earlier this month that he would pay off the debt in eight years by renegotiating trade deals. The Post called that claim "nonsensical."

His plan was also derided by budget hawks, who called it ridiculous.

Trump added in the Fortune interview that he now wants to pay off a "percentage" of it, but he hasn't decided what that figure would be.

“I think those who say their church needs palpable improvement are those who have the best ones of all. Because consciences are awake.”

That is just a way far-out meandering without any basis of fact whatsoever.

you must have struck gold with others here, but you are played out at this end.

I spoke a truth and it is nonsense to you. Figures. You are a religious show off.

How about C. S. Lewis: a moderately bad man knows he is not very good. A thoroughly bad man thinks he is quite all right.

"The link back from your very reply, actually. How can you be so pretentiously obtuse?" ok, post 61 is your reply to me and I paste in its entirety" and you are behaving like an idiot, BTW as there is no link whatsoever. and your bad manners by calling me names improves nothing but perhaps your own ego. To: doldrumsforgop Suddenly, pre-crime in bathrooms at the level of three or four decimal places “Trumps” everything else. He knows where legal challenges on this kind of thing go in today’s climate. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t end up with a liberal USSC stuffing it down North Carolina’s throat giving them a worse dictum than if they had left it alone. 61 posted on ‎4‎/‎22‎/‎2016‎ ‎9‎:‎12‎:‎25‎ ‎PM by HiTech RedNeck (Embrace the Lion of Judah and He will roar for you and teach you to roar too. “How much is currently financed at high interest rates?”
********************I*********************************************
I don’t know; probably very little. That’s why I think it IDIOTIC for someone to replace his boast that “I’ll pay off the national debt in 8 years” with “well, I’ll refinance it”. He must be IGNORANT of the fact that the Treasury Department has whole staffs who primary job is to do just that. And He puts it out there as if it is an original idea that he will implement and solve/mitigate the national debt problem. The MAGNITUDE & BREADTH of his ignorance is stunning.

He’s only just begun. He keeps this up his delegates won’t save him from a 3rd party put in nomination.

Meanwhile the DemoncRats NEVER mention the National Debt.

They just keep promising “free” stuff to their Voters. Their only answer on how it’s going to be paid for is Tax the Rich. Ask about the National Debt and they just act like it has no impact on Monetary Policy or the Federal Budget.

How dare anyone bring up the Elephant in the room and actually make it a Goal for the Country as a part of their Campaign? Sorry Folks, the Country is beyond redemption.

I love how our side always takes the hits for what the other side has created.

If it succeeds, the Democrats made it happen.
If it fails, like when the Bill shows up in the Mail, it’s the Republican fault.

Heck, I know Liberals who blame Reagan for the AIDS Epidemic. You can imagine my graphic question to them when they try to make that Turd float in the Pool.

I’m pretty happy with Trump’s performance. This is the most presidential fun to be had since Reagan.

The Federal Reserve is basically a corporate entity established with a monopoly charter, which simultaneously issues debt instruments and generates credits on behest of the U.S. Treasury. The debt is placed on the market as instruments with terms such as to pay a fixed interest after an appointed time has passed. The credit is made available to subservient entities (banks) as currency transfers of 1’s and 0’s, in support of credit availability at a local level.

The Fed makes a profit on transactions and passes this minus a 6% fixed fee to the U.S. Treasury. As the Fed is not part of the U.S. Government, the board members form an independent entity, supposedly independent of government oversight.

This is the third incarnation of a federal central bank, the Fed being established in 1913. The prior central bank charter was not renewed in 1836, and President Andrew Jackson arranged for the U.S. debt to be completely paid off, the only president to date to accomplish this feat.

That’s really bright. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act is credited as being the single most important cause of the Great Depression. Tariffs benefit only the rich and powerful while hurting the punishing the working class. If you want to eliminate poverty and get rid of the national debt, abolish tariffs and reduce federal spending by 50%.

Why not ? It is what China, Germany, England, et al do to American imports. VATs are functionally equivalent to tariffs the way they use them.

I am seeing efforts to parse words by these kind of K streeter blog cites like "The Hill", etc that are parsing words by Trump in an attempt to show he is backtracking when he is not. Trump offered several possible scenarios.

Politicians are used to producing one idea (remember Gore's "lockbox") as the only way to do something. Trump is from the private sector - there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Are you sure they don’t need a conference room large enough for their staffs and lobbyists to explain what they are voting on ? Somebody needs to write the two paragraph synopsis of those 3,000 page Bills so they can claim they read it before they voted on it.

Excuse me.
Believe me.
Very, very, very.

Not a backtrack - it’s a “revisit”. That’s different.

“Backtrack” sounds like a step backwards. The Trumpster never goes backwards. That’s for losers. The Trumpster “revisits” and “evolves”. That’s all very, very Believe me.

Abortion good, abortion bad, abortion good, I’m a Dem. I’m an Independent, I’m a Republican, you have a horse face, you’re attractive, he’s a child molester, he’s my new best friend, I’m Israel’s best friend, let’s negotiate with terrorists, I’m not saying he is, I read it on the web, torture yes, torture no, Pope disgraceful, I respect him, punish women, oops, blah, blah, blah.

Now this.

In a few months, he’ll be most revisiting every stinking thing he has said. He is the chameleon.

Very, very, very. (It’s a complete sentence when you have a limited vocabulary.)
