Is it Two miles square or 2 square miles ?

two square miles is the space (area) that can be covered with two squares that have sides equal to 1 mile in length.
Xxxx

two miles squared is the square that is formed when the sides are each 2 miles long.

...so 2 square miles = two squares each having sides 1 mile long —> written 2 m²

...2 miles squared is 2 miles * 2 miles = 4 square miles —> written 4 m²

Two square miles is the total area.

A square mile has equal sides of one mile in length.

If a side has two miles as the length, then the square is 4 square miles; 2 x 2 = 4.

The area of Harrington is 2 square miles total.

Well, actually a little larger if you include water.

In DE, this represents the highest level of math allowed. ;)

Wikipedia says 2 sq miles or 16 square blocks (1/8 mile each block).
