Donald Trumps victory in New York stonewalled Ted Cruzs path to clinching the Republican nomination, making it increasingly difficult to block the GOP front-runner.
The Never Trump forces are pledging to play in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and other states in the Northeast next week, but the prospect for another momentum shift wont likely come until next month, with races in Indiana and Nebraska, and eventually California in June. The immediate calendar leaves lots of room for Trump to gain steam.
A key part of the problem, strategists say, is that the focus of the effort has been stopping the front-runner instead of promoting an alternative candidate. The movement never truly coalesced around Cruz, and the senators endorsements from reluctant Republican colleagues underscored the difficulty his campaign has in engendering excitement for him. Meanwhile, John Kasich now feels emboldened by the notion that Cruz can no longer win the nomination outright. But he and Cruz will be fighting over similar turf in a way that might benefit Trump.
Theres been this Weve got to stop Trump, but not an equal amount of enthusiasm for Lets get behind Cruz to do that, says John Brabender, a GOP strategist and former adviser to Rick Santorums campaign.

Sir,
With all due respect, where did you learn to spell?
Trump University?
The only people standing with Trump are American citizens.
That fact he's still standing - AND WINNING - is a testament to the strength of his will. When Trump wins at convention - and the pipsqueaks in the GOPe shut the hell up you'll see his numbers bounce right up...
This is exactly right. How is that people don’t remember 4 years ago? Or eight years ago? We had really intelligent conservatives looking at Romney’s bad poll numbers and saying that he was going to crush Obama. And how anyone can listen to Trump speak and continually flip flop and think he’s just going to bluster his way into office is amazing to me.
The worst. The absolute worst. Most pathetic arguement. Is to abandon the subject and go ad hominem on a dropped “n”.
Whose lines are you trapped behind anyway?
The idea that the media is against him is laughable. They love him. He’s good for ratings which means money. We need to stop this ridiculous notion that the media is doing anything to stop him. Tehy’re humoring him. Now, I have zero doubts that they will crucify him if he gets the nom, but please don’t peddle the notion that they don’t love him for what he brings them.
You are starting to remind me of Eeyore, the gloomy donkey in Winnie the Pooh! Try getting out in the sun, or something.
Sorry to the bearer of bad news, but let me lay it out for you as gently as humanly possible.
The country has changed and massively so these last three or four decades.
In 2012, MR won nearly 60% of the white vote. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, that would have been more than enough to secure a massive landslide victory.
But whites are a dwindling portion of the electorate. I have seen this first hand here in CA, now the rest of the country following suite.
There are not enough angry white males out there to elect DT POTUS IMHO. Sorry to say.
Yep. Very important to not let the MSM drive the narrative.
Look back
2012 - OOOOH, Romney is such a formidable candidate!
2008 - OOOOH, McCain is such a formidable candidate!
“Theyre both terrific people, and I hope they both get the nomination, His Royal Donaldness of Orange speaking of Hillary and Giuliani in 2007.
Hillary Clinton I think is a terrific woman. I am biased because I have known her for years. I live in New York. She lives in New York. I really like her and her husband both a lot. I think she really works hard. And I think, again, shes given an agenda, it is not all of her, but I think she really works hard and I think she does a good job. I like her.” His Royal Donaldness of Orange speaking about Hillary on Fox News in 2012.
Im a businessman. I contribute to everybody, Trump said. When I needed Hillary, she was there. If I say go to my wedding, they go to my wedding. -From the same 2012 interview. Sounds to me like that wall street connection of Hillary's might go right through Trump Tower. If Hillary has been there for Trump, maybe she thinks he owes her one. It's never wise to have a debt to the Clintons.

I live in Los Angeles, hence my screen name.
Want to make a quick buck out here?
Go into business selling Donald Trump piñatas.
They are literally flying off the shelves here.
NOT AFTER TODAY WE DON’T.
ALL YOUR DELEGATES ARE BELONG TO US!
Nobody wants PERVERTS using the same locker rooms and bathrooms AS OUR CHILDREN.
Except liberals and PERVERTS. PERVERTS.
Donny could no longer contain the inner liberal.
No problem getting delegates now. They are most likely calling the RNC right now to figure out how they can switch from Trump to Cruz..RIGHT NOW!
Jedi.
I recall Eeyore being a realist, if memory serves me correctly.
Luckily, I was not trying to drink coffee when I read your response! I’m OK now. You have a nice day! ;-)
I hope you are correct but I think that tRump supporters only care about two things: Muslims and Mexicans, which they falsely believe the Donald is going to get rid of.
You are ignoring the critical factors:
1. The fall campaign has not yet started.
2. We already know how quickly Donald Trump can take down someone who starts with a very material edge. Have you forgotten what happened to the steamroller for Jeb Bush—considered the overwhelming odds on favorite, last June;— when Donald Trump went after him? (And Jeb never had a fraction of the negatives that Hillary Clinton has.)
Oh, really?
Whites (including Hispanics who identified as White) constitute the majority, with a total of about 246,660,710, or 77.35% of the population as of 2014. Non-Hispanic Whites totaled about 197,870,516, or 62.06% of the U.S. population. (Yes, Wikipedia isn’t really an academic source, but it’s close enough - US Census 2014 has whites at 77.4% so good enough estimates to work with)
So, going with the overall White population of 77.35% of the USA population, getting 66% of this bloc gets you over 50% of the overall vote. That means if Trump increases his share of the white vote from 60% (which loser Romney got) to 66% (which is rational given his populist message that will pull in Reagan Democrats), Trump wins even if he gets ZERO of any minority vote.
Trump getting 20% of the overall minority vote is extremely conservative.
My view is that Trump gets 70% of the white vote and 25% of the minority vote.
That puts him at 59% overall. A substantial victory percentage within shouting distance of Reagan’s 1984 percentage.
Trump and GOP’s only uncertainty is not if Trump will win against Hillary.
Their only uncertainty is at what point in late October does Hillary drop out and the Democrats swap in a Biden/Warren ticket a la what they did with Bob Torricelli in NJ several years back.
Hombre, my friend, do you live in Colorado where recreational pot is legal?
Would love to know what you are smoking right now.
None of the polls I’ve seen, including all of the latest the HRC vs DJT matchups show anything close to what you are putting forward.
Formerly from CA, now in the Midwest.
I would point you to the head to head polling Reagan/Carter at the same point in time in 1980. They would say the same thing - Reagan gets beaten badly by Carter.
What Hillary/Trump polls say in April will not be what they say in October and November.
You are ignoring critical factors.
Once Donald Trump secures the GOP nomination, it will be a whole new ballgame. The media (except Trump’s pom pom cheerleaders on Faux News) are going turn on him and unleash even more sordid and tawdry news on him. The media will cover up and protect the Clintons like they always do. The media has being withholding fire right now because the WANT Trump to WIN the GOP nomination. But they will be solidly behind the Democrats in the general election as they always are.
Trump could get away with sliming his fellow Republicans, belittling them and insulting them with his silly little nicknames, and snide comments and gratuitous insults. But none of this will work against the Dems in the Fall election.
