Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention.
Cruz had previously called a contested convention likely and that it seemed the party was heading in that direction. But after a disappointing third-place loss in New York Tuesday, the Texas Republican is no longer saying he plans to beat front-runner Donald Trump at the ballot box.
"We are headed to a contested convention, Cruz said in an interview with Philadelphia talk-radio personality Chris Stigall this morning. At this point, nobody is getting 1,237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237; hes not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1,237.
And hes right about one thing. After the New York primary, it is now mathematically impossible for Cruz to clinch the Republican nomination using bound or pledged delegates before the July convention in Cleveland.

Sad for Ted Cruz, but, like his ranting/raving, pappy and nutcase Glenn Beck...is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. End of story!!!
Ted. Quit digging!
Not going to happen.
Trump then ask: "Why Wouldn't You Just Quit Ted? ...I wuz robbed!"
He can’t say he’s going to win any more, and he can’t steal enough delegates to win because this was publicized all over God’s earth and now he can’t do it. People know what is going on.
He put all his eggs in one basket - Ballot #2.
Now that won’t happen, but he still needs money.
He knows he’s lying, and he knows this is nonsense.
I love how everyone talks about Cruz, but nobody ever mentions that Kasich should drop.
But I could swear I just heard Cruz tell Hannity that Trump just lost 5 elections in a row and couldn’t run a lemonade stand. But I have a question. Is it technically an election when all the delegates are all picked by party insiders at a “convention” and the people don’t get to vote for the nominee of their choice? Because that doesn’t feel much like an election to me.
Ted sees no big picture. He is completely deluded if he thinks he can win a contested convention. The GOPe will try to use Cruz to block Trump and then discard him like a used tissue. And Cruz will have pissed away the massive anti-GOPe majority this primary cycle.
And Supposed Trump does get the nomination? You are not suggesting that he wont make use of the Establishment? Back in 2008, Obama had an organization in place in all 50 states, one which worked parallel with the Party and the unions. What has Donald done.? He chose not even to compete in Colorado and Wyoming. His train -wreck a minute style has not brought him as far as he hoped. He leads a faction. Not even a majority yet, except in NY which is a blue state where Republicans are a small minority.
Just like the rest of D.C., Cruz is completely detached. Does this guy really think America would stand by and allow the Sultans of Sham to burn the voter ballots and just declare him king?
Not going to happen Mr. Cruz.
RejecTED!
Wrong. Cruz himself said he thought he could come in second place in some districts. Didn't happen.
His mission is to deny the citizens the ability to stop the illegal alien inundation, same as the RNC/GOP/Cheap Labor Express.
Ted Cruz is mathematically out of winning the race. Now all he can do is be a spoiler, never a nice thing to do. I will beat Hillary!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 20, 2016
Um last I checked, Trump is kicking Ted’s ass.
If anybody believes that in a contested convention that either Trump or Cruz will get the nod is smoking serious crack
Cruz is using the GOPe to try and attain a contested convention. And the GOPe will use that opportunity to install a RINO. So obvious that anyone but Ted Cruz and his suppporters can see it.
I note that Hillary received almost three times the number of votes that Trump did in NY.
This is what happens when someone things he is ordained by God to be President. Utter delusion.
The f*** we are, Ted.
You can go there by your damned self. You and your whole party can go to Hell.
