Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention.
Cruz had previously called a contested convention likely and that it seemed the party was heading in that direction. But after a disappointing third-place loss in New York Tuesday, the Texas Republican is no longer saying he plans to beat front-runner Donald Trump at the ballot box.
"We are headed to a contested convention, Cruz said in an interview with Philadelphia talk-radio personality Chris Stigall this morning. At this point, nobody is getting 1,237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237; hes not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1,237.
And hes right about one thing. After the New York primary, it is now mathematically impossible for Cruz to clinch the Republican nomination using bound or pledged delegates before the July convention in Cleveland.

My gosh, the kool-aid some of you are drinking, is rotten to the core.

Go away, Ted.
“In early April Cruooz was telling Kasich to get out because he was mathematically eliminated from getting 1,237.
Cruz moving the goal posts again and again..”
Cruz has demonstrated that he is a hypocrite. There is no indication he will be changing that anytime soon.
His vile and vicious campaign manager Jeff Roe is in hiding. No communication out of the campaign since 4/15 from Mr. Roe.
About time he admitted that he LOST!
contesTED
That’s because Cruz has been telling Kasich & Trump to drop out. Cruz is a lame ash pick.
Ok Donald J Trump, Let's show the delegates who is going to beat Hillary and let's start now
Bye now. BUT Where the OPUS?
And you think Ted can whine and blame others to win his way to more than 100 EVs?
Delusions. It’s not just for breakfast anymore.
Amen.
“I note that Hillary received almost three times the number of votes that Trump did in NY.”
So?
How many more XXXXX voted for Hillary than Teddy in NY?
Your point is what? NY does not have open primaries but in the General the rules are different.
“Good luck with this clown Trump, Jim. Dont guess Ill be back.”

Here’s a hankie.
If Ted continues his “landslide” wins, “over and over and over” again then a contested convention is unlikely. Make up your mind, Cruz!
“Cruz is the one splitting the party in half. I detest this man.”
Actually, it’s the Republicans who believe that Trump is likely to be a constitutional and conservative disaster who are splitting the party. That is, the people in the party are split. If conservatives believed Trump was actually a conservative who would respect the Constitution, this nomination would have been over a long time ago. His nasty and unfounded attacks against the grassroots conservatives have not helped his cause here at all.
Having Cruz out of the race is not going to fix the party split. The only thing that will fix the split, should Trump win, is if he were to govern as a Constitutional conservative. I think that is unlikely. But should that happen, he will find a conservative movement eager to work with him and a reunified party. If not, we might as well have elected Mitt Romney and given him an attitude.
Now, as a wholly political strategy, the smart thing for both The Donald and Ted Cruz to do, would be to bury their differences, agree that The Donald is the top of the ticket and Cruz is the VP, and present this to the delegates at the convention, immediately after the first ballot, or before the first ballot, and any other names are introduced to the nominations.
Bigger differences than this were split to produce the “fusion” ticket of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in 1980. Reagan’s “supply side” economic program was called “voodoo economics” by Bush.
Which pretty much passed for “name-calling” back then.
Benedict Teddy, this pukes only concern is for himself. F Y Teddy
I agree CG. The Cruz we are seeing now is NOT the Cruz I voted for in Texas.
BTW, has Cruz even mentioned the people suffering in his home area of Houston? The deaths? The disastrous floods due to the rains? Has Cruz even said one peep about the people he allegedly is fighting for?
I can’t find anything. If someone knows of a Cruz statement about the deaths in Houston, I’d like to see it thank you.
I know how can someone claim Cruz splitting the party is bad and Trump destroying the party is good. FR is getting nutty again.
At least Trump won so we won’t have to listen to the whining as much. At least not until they realize he’s not going to get to 1237.
Donald Trump! ...I’ve Won! ...I’ve Won!
Trump wins with people. Your Rat wins with Party Hacks, the GOPe Big Donors, the Cheap Labor Express and a Fringe section of religious lunatics.
