GOP risks suicide by stealing election from Trump
World Net Daily ^ | 4/19/16 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 04/20/2016 7:21:36 AM PDT by ek_hornbeck

Donald Trump has brought out the largest crowds in the history of primaries. He has won the most victories, the most delegates, the most votes. He is poised to sweep three of the five largest states in the nation – New York, Pennsylvania and California.

If he does, and the nomination is taken from him, the Republican Party will be seen by the American people as a glorified Chinese tong.

Last week, Ted Cruz swept 34 delegates at the Colorado party convention. Attendees were not allowed to vote on whom they wanted as the party’s nominee.

This weekend, Cruz shut out Trump in Wyoming the same way.

What does this tell us? Cruz has a better “ground game.” His operatives work the system better. Ted Cruz is the king of small ball.

The GOP is no longer a credible national party and should go the way of the Whigs. High time a new national party get formed.

I argue back that Trump is the one the establishment wants to win. He is from New York after all, making him part of the East Coast establishment Barry Goldwater worked against.

The establishment is glad that the anti-establishment Cruz is out, and will be cheering in the streets when Trump clinches it.

THis is an entirely different country than it was 40 years ago. We are trending away from religion and we ARE NOT becoming more conservative. Wishful thinking isn’t going to change that.

He doesn't have the boots on the ground at the local party level to get things done.
What you call “boots on the ground at the local party level”, the rest of us call “the GOP Establishment”.

Oh, okay. I gess the folks who sit at home and watch TV instead of getting involved in the fate of their country should have more say-so than those who participate.

So far from being "suicide," this is the GOP establishment's strategy for self-preservation: better to lose this election to another Democrat than risk having the party taken over by the grassroots.

They will be committing suicide if they do that.

I am active in state and local politics and I've been a loyal worker bee. If they play dirty I will be finished with them and I know there are people who are already preparing for a new party if we are cheated.

The fact that Cruz has anti-establishment views is beside the point. The RNC has no intention of allowing either Trump or Cruz to be nominated in a brokered convention. So the joke is on Cruz supporters: blocking Trump from 1237 delegates won’t result in the nomination of Cruz. It will result in a brokered convention where by-law 40 is repealed, with a nomination going to any one of the following: Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, or Marco Rubio.

After this the neo-cons will become neo-dems and take over that party like they once did. They master the winners. Pat’s the greatest.

Max Boot and Bill Kristol said they would back Hillary if Trump is the nominee. They said the same thing about Pat Buchanan 20 years ago.

It's great to have candidates who shake things up and get the establishment to show its true colors. Like Buchanan, Trump has the GOP establishment admitting that they have more in common with Hillary Clinton than they do with the people they've been milking for $ and votes for all these years.

Plus, the neo-con artists in the gope know that Hillary is on the same page with them, because of her efforts in Libya. They aren’t so sure about Trump.

Oh, okay. I gess the folks who sit at home and watch TV instead of getting involved in the fate of their country should have more say-so than those who participate.

This is the attitude I've been seeing here on FR from some, where FReepers who see themselves as being "active" (as in participating in their local/state party operations) see themselves as the true owners of the party, and the voters ("who sit home and watch TV) being held in contempt.

Much like corporate managers who run the company for their own benefit, rather than seeing themselves as having a duty towards the shareholders, who are the true owners of the company.

In both cases, from the viewpoint of the shareholders/voters, the cure is the same: replacement of the current management with different people with viewpoints that align with the true owners.

"Max Boot and Bill Kristol said they would back Hillary if Trump is the nominee. "

Indeed, that fits the neo-con style. The neo-cons will back the one who they can lead through the nose into war somewhere, the mid-east preferably. That fits Clinton who would like to be a war-time President, another Thatcher.

“if he adopts the following strategy”

There is NO EVIDENCE Donald would adopt such a strategy.

Disagree, and not wishful thinking — and certainly not a reason to cave to a populist candidate who is as liberal and authoritarian as the ‘RATS. We remain a center-right country, despite the assaults of the Left and demographic shifts. Forty percent of the country are conservatives, 20% are liberals, and 40% are persuadable middle of the roaders. The ‘Pubs have made extremely poor arguments for electing another conservative in the Coolidge-Reagan mold. The conservative message is one of freedom, love of country, and personal responsibility. Despite the high numbers on the govt. dole, it's a message that, when properly presented, rings true to the majority of Americans.

Apparently not.

How would a Trump nomination save the GOP?

But are you convinced Trump isn’t establishment.

I've learned not to trust anyone in politics completely. Having said that, the fact that Mitt Romney, who couldn't bring himself to say a single bad word about Obama, is all in hysterics about stopping Trump is a very good sign in Trump's favor.

“Please explain how a Trump nomination saves the GOP.”

Normally, and historically, when a person wins, the party he is a member of benefits.

Trump is showing the crossover appeal that Reagan had.

Unless, of course, you are one of these bizarre people who have actually bought into the notion that Hillary can beat Trump. If so, there is no reason for discourse.
