Donald Trump has received a massive amount of free media coverage. It amounts to nearly $2 billion. Yet, what about the series of threats made against those in the anti-Trump camp? Guy wrote about Trumpite Roger Stone, who threatened to tell supporters where RNC delegates are staying during the convention in July. As you would expect, these stories of intimidation, even death threats, hardly make the cut for the Big ThreeABC, CBS, and NBCwho instead focused on the billionaire complaining about how the system is rigged, though hes the frontrunner and has the most delegates. The Media Research Centers Rich Noyes crunched the numbers between news broadcasts, including Sunday Morning talk shows, between April 5 to the 14:
On April 13, ABCs World News Tonight correspondent Tom Llamas devoted most of that nights report to chilling death threats against the Colorado state Republican party chairman, angered at how Donald Trump failed to win any delegates at the weekend party convention.
Besides that one report, and two minor mentions (one on ABCs Good Morning America and on Thursdays CBS Evening News), thats all the broadcast news attention given to reports of actual death threats in this increasingly nasty presidential race: 110 seconds in total, not a moment of which was on NBC.
But since the Colorado convention through Thursday night (April 10 through April 14), the broadcast networks have aired a collective 45 minutes, 30 seconds of coverage of Trumps complaints that the GOP nominating system is crooked and rigged. Thats 24 TIMES more airtime spent on Trumps grievance about the process, vs. death threats against anti-Trump Republicans.
[…]
While the networks devoted only minor coverage to the absolutely awful death threats against anti-Trump Republicans (Colorado GOP chairman Steve House told ABC he received an anonymous phone call telling him: I need you to do me a favor. Get your gun, put it in your mouth, pull the trigger....If you cant do that, Im going to send someone over to the house and help you.), they gave virtually the same amount of coverage to Trumps convention chairman, Paul Manafort, accusing the Cruz campaign of being Nazis, saying on NBCs Meet the Press: You go to these county conventions, and you see the tactics, Gestapo tactics.
While NBCs Chuck Todd immediately challenged Manafort in a 32-second exchange, nothing further was said on NBC about Manaforts inflammatory rhetoric. ABC included the quote in their reporting on Sundays World News Tonight and Mondays Good Morning America, but included no criticism; CBS did the same in two segments on Mondays CBS This Morning.
Total coverage of the Trump campaigns charge of Gestapo tactics against Team Cruz: a mere 100 seconds.
I would say that constitutes bias; at least Im open about mine.
And they call Trump the whiner?
It brought the BS out to the public......
Trump has become a first class whiner.
Trump and his family have gotten threats. The SS had to get involved.
Go trump! Colorado is waking up voters to the scam that is Cruz. Cruz stealing Colorado is the best thing that could have happened to the patriotic American trump supporters.
Anyone I talk to...Why Trump over Cruz....Trust!!
Trump would go on these shows, radio and television when others would not. The Cruz people are the whiners.
I think Cruz should drop out and run as a 3rd party candidate.
That’ll show ‘em!
Trump goes on nearly every show. The other candidates are welcome to go on any network they like the difference is candidates like Cruz are managed. They are unwilling to take the same risks that Trump invites. Sure Trump has gotten burned a few times but the up side has been enormous. Trump is showing exactly how to use the media against itself. Its really a beautiful thing.
Yep...Trust and not being a “politician”....
Matt Vespa should just scoot.
Trump and his supporters are nothing but thugs.
Did you see that video of what his campaign manager did to that lady reporter? He threw her down, stomped on her face, and then he bit her!
/s
I guess “whiner” is what the GOPe calls anyone who doesn’t roll over and spread their cheeks for the democrat machine.
You hate the truth, don’t you?
I guess there is not as much market for nasal mewling about bogus prophecy and legal footnotes.
Well?
Yep...Trust and not being a politician....
I would say Cruz gave too much attention to his 'ground game' and neglected and mismanaged his media game.
Now I'm not going to call him or you a whiner like I've been called.
The media, when not being paid by the left for sponsored content, reports news that will bring in ad revenue, i.e. the news people want to hear. Trump has given them this. It's a skill like any other.
Here's a question: Do we want a candidate who knows how to manage a ground game - i.e. seel himself out for delegates he can't get via actual votes, or one who can manage the media?
Call Trump an anti-conservative all you want -> he's going to do 100 times more for the conservative cause over the next 8 years than Cruz ever could have, exactly because of things like this.
Heck, he's already done more for it than anyone in the past 20 years, and he's not even elected yet. In this case, if you can't bring yourself to like him, you'd be advised to hate the sinner, but love the sin.
