The "ground game" or whatever other euphemism it goes by consists of one thing: BRIBES. Bribes to party bosses and to delegates to circumvent the decision of the voters. Trump took the moral position that he was not going to participate in a rigged system of PURCHASING influence and delegates. Cruz DID not. (Cruz is more accustomed to SELLING influence than buying it, so I guess he gets a point for that.)
"We didnt play in Colorado, because I heard that it was going to be for the bosses, the RNC, so Im not going to waste a lot of money, dont forget that I am self-funding, so when I spend money its my money, its not some PACs money where people are giving it just because they want to have influence, and they want their local politician or their politicians to do what they want them to do. So we didnt play because the game was rigged.
"You take [the delegates, bosses] on trips, put them in hotel rooms, I dont want to play that game. Im winning with the voters and Im winning big. The party bosses do this thing in Colorado, Wyoming, Florida. I dont want to play the game. Youre buying these people. You ARE BUYING THESE PEOPLE.
Donald J. Trump, April 17 - Staten Island press conference
"I could have gone to Colorado and met the head guy and sent him all over the place, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO PAY OFF THESE DELEGATES. It shouldnt be allowed. Lets dont play the game. They go out and wine and dine, you have no idea, crooked process, dishonest process. ITS NOT THE RIGHT THING TO DO WE HAVE A BAD SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEM HAS TO CHANGE." CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

The process in CO was a total setup and tailor made for those motivated to manipulate elections. Such as this case.
Or are you suggesting what occurred in CO, where there was no vote of the people, was above board, legitimate and honorable?
Get real.
The argument that Republicans “owe” it to the public to choose the candidate based on individual candidate preferences OR preferences of the general electorate is a red herring.
The constitution says nothing about “parties.” In fact the founders initially argued against what they called “factions” - today’s “parties.”
Parties are no more an extension of the government than are the Lions Clubs.
They are organizations formed by activists to put forward candidates who support their values.
The populist argument from a republican is more akin to the progressive argument from a democrat than an appeal to the “base” of the party.
Trump to Nevada delegates: I'll pay your travel, hotel costs
"With overwhelming success throughout each county, we're in a strong position going into the state convention being held in Reno on May 14th and 15th," Charles Munoz, Trump's Nevada state director, wrote in an email to the billionaire's grassroots supporters. "We'll also be announcing training's, lodging and transportation opportunities for delegates within the next couple days."
Oh, stuff it. I’m quite familiar with his record. In fact, it’s his record that has caused me to stop supporting him.
Dude, I think this is the breaking point. Trump has essentially accused every Republican activist and elected official who supports Cruz delegates - or is one themselves - of only doing so because of bribery. If I was one of those people, I wouldn’t cast a vote for Trump if he’s the nominee if he was running against Mao himself.
The idea that nobody voted in Colorado is a gargantuan lie. But it’s been repeated enough that a lot of folks believe it.
Why didn’t he tell us beforehand what his idiotic strategy was....you people will believe anything this shyster tells you......any other voters would be mad at someone that ran an inept campaign like trumpy
If Trump does it, it's okay. If he doesn't, then those who do are cheating.
I just wish someone could find the rock from which that guy crawled out. Belongs in the Smithsonian.
Why wouldn’t we believe it, that’s what Colorado told us?
Colorado will not vote for a Republican candidate for president at its 2016 caucus after party leaders approved a little-noticed shift that may diminish the state’s clout in the most open nomination contest in the modern era.
The GOP executive committee has voted to cancel the traditional presidential preference poll after the national party changed its rules to require a state’s delegates to support the candidate who wins the caucus vote.

Sweetheart, I got the email. They are not offering to pay travel or hotel costs.
Give me a break. The process was a mockery of two travesties of a sham, and was setup last August, specifically to exclude "outsiders" like Trump and Cruz.
Since Jeb Bush got squashed like an insect by Donald Trump, the GOPe had no choice but to choose another darling. Ted Cruz was the only one left standing, and thus became the beneficiary of their "greased skids" process.
Rush Limbaugh admitted as much a few days ago on his radio show: Cruz's success had nothing to do with a superior ground game, and everything to do with the fact that he's the new GOPe designated "NeverTrump" candidate.
It's impossible to be so naive as to deny that, and the American People are quite aware of the situation. That is why the optics have hurt Ted Cruz so much on the past couple of weeks. He's tanking in both national and state polls, and there's simply no other reason for it than his perceived delegate theft in Colorado.
If there's some additional reason Ted Cruz is fading so fast, I'd like to hear it...
Honeybunch, I guess his Nevada director was lying then.
Do you live in Nevada? Did the Trump Nevada Director email you? Perhaps you are on a different, select email list from the one I am on?
I only know what I read on Free Republic. Is that quote false?
What?? So he didn’t compete there because he’s too darn cheap?
They are doing the same thing they did for the caucus. Arranging carpooling opportunities if necessary, addresses and times for the training and close by lodging and prices.
That's a key phrase..... it is King Trumpy Worship for a lot of his followers.....

I’ll be voting Trump because I want a non-establishment first round victory at the convention, and Cruz cannot earn that victory, but Cruz would be an excellent President, Vice President, or Supreme Court Justice. I’m trying with incomplete success to discourage the personal attacks against Trump, Cruz, and their supporters because I want a conservative victory in November. Alienating even a few percent of voters will lead to a Hillary presidency. Even if I enjoyed personal attacks (I don’t), I would deny myself the pleasure to avoid a national disaster of that magnitude.
Trump got outplayed and his ego can't deal with it so he hurls prevarications at Cruz, and the party, to distract from the fact that he didn't make the effort necessary to win here. It must be hard to accept such flagrant losses when non-stop winning is your brand identity and promise.
