A magnitude-7.8 earthquake occurred Saturday evening on the coast of Ecuador, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The tremor was recorded at a depth of 19.2 kilometers (11.9 miles).
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the capital of Quito, located 173 kilometers (108 miles) from the epicenter of the earthquake.

I have a friend in Bahia de Caraquez which looks to be less than 100 miles south of the epicenter. Haven’t yet heard back from him and given the infrastructure there, I probably won’t for a while. He is a ham radio guy so he may be operating on batteries. He moved to Ecuador after Obama was elected.
Cascadia.
Big quake in Japan followed by one in Ecuador..doesn’t that usually mean a big one might hit here?
I asked mods to delete my Colinas post, it was removed from the Twitter earthquake feed, so may have been wrong.
Thanks for posting this link.
Cascadia, If that fault goes, it will most likely last in duration for a full 5 minutes.
And it is really humped up an ready to go.
They now think that it will just about level places like Seattle.
You read my mind. But you also reminded me to play a song I had on my mind today.

Thanks!
Well, since I've got this kitchen window panoramic view of the North rim of the "Jellystone" caldera, I'll give you a heads up if the thing goes off.
...or maybe not. I may be too busy kissing everyone goodnight.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
God help the Pacific Northwest if that lets go.
Here is a vid of the building sway from the 11 earthquake in Japan.
They were wrong, even though they think they made them proof, they were mistaken. That quake was a good ways from Tokyo and it still damaged these buildings.
If the cascadia goes, the quake will be a heck of a lot closer to places like Seattle. I woundnt want to be in any of those buildings at that time.

Its gonna. When is anyones guess, but with these faults slipping all around it, it will go sooner rather than later.
I left a Youtube vid of the building sway from the 011 earthquake in Japan. You wont believe the sway.
After a quake and if a person lives in places like Seattle the saying should go.
Leave quik, Go high, Stay long, Return late.
Yikes! Just got home from Quito and Guayaquil. Very scary!

The west coast of the USA should be receiving one any time now.
My best friend has a boy who is working in Portland. We talked about this and he decided to take his RV Trailer out there and park it east away from the water and the mountains. He has a army buddy that has some vacant land somewhere not far from water-lake or something-somewhere in the northeastern part of the state I guess.
He left his dirt bike for the kid in case he needs to get out and cant use his car.
I hope the New Madrid fault does not awake.
If you take the line created between the Ecuador and Guatemala earthquakes and extended it NW it runs right into border of Mexico and SoCal. I hope all FReepers are ready in CA.
Does FR have backup servers in another part of the US?
...or in the case of a major population center, I’d avoid return altogether.
Twenty years ago, I’d not have said this, but the general population (particularly in places like LA, SanFran or Seattle) is so dependent and at the same time so selfish/self-centered....I’m concerned that if a major disaster occurred in one of those places, the physical damage and deaths due to the event would be a tiny fraction of the death and damage caused by the panic and gross criminality of the “survivors”.
It wouldn’t even rise to the level of Medieval.
No so fast. I can find nothing for today on the volcano but it has been highly active this week;
