Saudi Arabia has reportedly told the Obama administration and congressional leaders that it will sell billions of dollars in U.S. financial assets if Congress passes a bill to make the Saudi government legally responsible for any role in the 9/11 attacks.
The administration has tried to stop Congress from passing the legislation, a bipartisan Senate bill, since Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir last month told Washington lawmakers his country’s position, according to The New York Times.
Al-Juberi purportedly informed the lawmakers during a trip to Washington that Saudi Arabia would be forced to sell as much as $750 billion in Treasury securities and other American financial assets on the world market, fearing the legislation could become law and U.S. courts would then freeze the assets.
The revelations about the Saudis’ ultimatum come several days after reports that President Obama will soon decide whether to declassify 28 pages of sealed documents suspected of showing a Saudi connection to the deadly 9/11 terror attacks.
Former Florida Democratic Sen. Bob Graham told Fox News on Tuesday that the White House told him a decision on whether to declassify the documents would be made within 60 days.
Graham helped lead a 2002 congressional inquiry into the attacks.
The Bush and Obama administrations have refused to unseal the documents, arguing their release would jeopardize national security. Critics claim the reluctance is a calculated move to hide Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the al Qaeda terror attack that killed almost 3,000 people on U.S. soil on Sept. 11, 2001.
Obama had come under renewed pressure to release the documents ahead of a scheduled trip next week to Saudi Arabia for a summit of Persian Gulf leaders.

This sounds like a golden opportunity for realignment in the Middle East.
Let’s tell the Saudis and Turks and Kuwaitis and Qataris and Bahrain and UAE jerks and all the other Sunni radicals to go fly a kite, and make up with Iran. It’s a much more historically correct posture - Persians were never our enemies until we earned the designation by overthrowing their government and imposed a despot.
If the Saudi government was at all involved then they should be pilloried in the World Courts. has such proof been aired, or is this a diversionary tactic?
The 9/11 incident is full of major unexplained items that have been suppressed and covered up by government and media together.
Like why WTC7 came down... or who exactly intervened to make sure the hijackers could get visas... or why all the steel from the wreckage was shipped off to China in violation of the law... or why exactly the Saudis got to fly a plane out of the country while everyone else was grounded... or why Gorelick got to sit on the investigatory commission when she should have been a primary witness... or why Kean, with close ties to the Saudis, got to chair that commission... or why the obvious Islamic crescent design for the PA 9/11 memorial wasn’t rejected out of hand... or why we invaded Afghanistan instead of taking the Taliban’s offer to hand over bin Laden (all we had to do was show proof he was involved... and we had proof, right?) and a lot of other things.
Without our help the saudis will be overrun by others, iran, isis. No question.

Very foolish of the Saudis. Their entire economy is a house of cards, a full-on welfare state dependent upon slave labor and a global commodity that they only control a small part of. Do they really want to play this game?
