NEW YORK A stunningly distracted crowd of hundreds of Republicans almost entirely ignored Ted Cruz's speech at the New York City GOP gala on Thursday night, instead chattering at their dinner tables, standing and taking selfies. Several casually left the dinner altogether.
The crowd's stark disregard for Cruz's remarks followed months of controversy over Cruz's suggestion in January that Donald Trump has "New York values.
The term spoken derogatorily by Cruz led to skepticism of Cruz's ability to perform well in Tuesday's primary on the home turf of Trump, a native New Yorker.
"I mean, [Cruz] blew it when he did the New York Values thing that was a bad point," said Ron Shindel, a Republican in attendance who also serves as the New York Police Department's commanding officer of the World Trade Center. "But this is Trumpville this is Trump town. I imagined the overwhelming support of Trump."

So they protested his “new york values thing” by demonstrating their new york values.
More than 80% of Manhattan votes Democrat. DiBlasio is a communist, and he won the city going away. Perhaps it’s good to be ignored there.
The comment didn’t swing him to major victories in the south, and destroyed him her.
Whether what he said was true or not, #$@#$ him.
All states have their issues.
Like I said, #@$@#$ him.
“Whether what he said was true or not, #$@#$ him.”
Where truth is irrelevant, New York City values abound.
LOLOLOLOL....exactly!
Damn, missed this all the other times it was posted.
What perfect state are you from?
Ever visit the conservative enclaves of NY?
the civil war is over, give it a rest.
They are just not that I to you Ted. :-)
The other 20% thinks DiBlasio is too moderate.
I’ve met some nice people in New York City. I’ve also met some real dirt bags.
New Yorkers don’t think the world revolves around them. They think they are the world.
None of which has anything to do with the civil war.
I love the city.
Always will.
Gonna die here.
Have a good one.
Didn’t play well with the snowbirds in Florida either. It would be a guaranteed loss in November in the Sunshine state
Nah, they just hate fake outsiders.
I live in New Jersey and run my business in Manhattan (and in the boroughs). Many of my clients are lifelong conservatives and so-called “bluedog” Democrats, so things here are not as moon-batty as some would think. New York is always ignored by conservatives, so it’s refreshing to see it in play for once. NYC is actually a very tough town, and that sharply contrasts with liberals’ “values”, so IMO full-blown liberalism is not the prevailing mindset - at least not with the many different types of people I come across...
But for all of Cruz’s eloquent speaking manner, and his vast knowledge of the Constitution and how government functions, he’s going nowhere fast in the charisma and respectability department. Evidence of this in the video at the link.
Also, deBlasio the Communist was elected by a very small number of eligible voters. Lots of people stayed home. Yes, those who voted him in are/were all extremely dumb liberals, but don’t forget that he had virtually no competition (he ran against a very wishy-washy “libertarian”). I don’t think his election is an indication of NYC’s “conservativeness”. He’ll be out after one term because he’s terrible and everyone in this city knows it.
There fixed it for ya.
” I dont think his election is an indication of NYCs conservativeness”
I think thats wishful thinking. If people don’t care enough to keep him out of office then they aren’t conservative.
One guy I know from the city is nice enough. He’s all for the govt except when it comes to him. He likes the city because he can get paid under the table and can avoid taxes. Elsewhere in the country he has trouble getting people to do that.
He also thinks all gun owners are the type to shoot up kids aka Sandyhook.
I lived in NYC for 22 years until 2011. The place is overrun with multiple types of leftists: minorities, illegals, limousine liberals, leftist Jews, academics, students and plain old dumbass wealthy rich white lunatics. The republicans that are truly conservative are very hard to locate. Most of the right-leaning types I knew there still were establishment oriented and akin to a weak George Pataki mindset. I agree with you that there is a lot of “Rudy” in the people there, yet many of those people still vote Democrat.
Ted’s a mess!
