Sharon Stone has cancelled filming of an upcoming project in Mississippi as a result of the states newly passed anti-LGBT religious freedom on steroids bill, HB 1523.
The films producers informed Mississippi Film Studios president Rick Moore that the law was a deal-breaker for Stone.
The unnamed film project reportedly tackles the consequences of cyberbullying. James Cromwell is slated to direct.
Unfortunately, Sharon Stone feels strongly that shooting in Mississippi is not an option while the law exists, Moore said. The other producers have chosen to regroup and find another location.
Moore said he has heard of projects on the coast that will no longer film in Mississippi for similar reasons.
While he said it is too early to tell what the long-term effects of the bill will be, Moore said hes noticed an immediate shift in conversation about movies considering filming in Mississippi.
HB 1523 has stirred many passionate opinions, which has unfortunately slowed the momentum of the film industry, he said. The incentive is still strong to shoot in Mississippi, so I expect independent productions without A-list talent will still consider it an option.

“She can be easily replaced....”
Yes this is true, and probably by someone that can act.
Shut up and “act”, trained monkey.
OUCH!!! This is getting series now!
What a great idea! I love it.
I would start at liberal universities and the restrooms in city halls and government buildings. Give ‘em a dose of their own medicine.
Depends shoots their commercials in Mississippi? Who knew?
At a minimum, those 24 states (plus all of the states in which the Republicans control the legislature but not the governorship) should simultaneously pass an identical Uniform Restoration of Religious Freedom Act. Make the liberals boycott half of the U.S. instead of letting them pick off individual states one at a time.
You are too kind.
Movie making is a whole lot of waiting around. Get about 3 extra rolls and it’ll get out of your system fast.
Get a speaking part and you can make about $1,400 for one day and if there’s overtime it adds up. But that hardly ever happens to extras though everyone of them is hoping it will.
He played the Stage Manager. Had to pantomime barking orders to the crew behind Dan Aykroyd and the guy playing James Brown. I think he even made the Trailer.
He was also supposed to play a Cop, but they didn’t have a Uniform that would fit him.
He did some Commercials and even played with his Band on the Gong Show when he was younger and lived in Malibu.
Good looking fellow. As for me, I have a Face for Radio. LOL
Sharon was born in Meadville PA. Channel Lock tools are made there, so something good came out of the place. As I went to college there, she was about par for the local girls but managed to escape.
Exactly. Most of us are just waiting for the publicity to die down and to be left in peace again, I must say that the left is staying latched onto this longer than I thought they would. It can’t be much longer before something will be more important to them than our insignificant little state (and that’s the way we like it).
Bingo!
Great strategy!!
