Cruz eyes double-agent delegates in bid to snatch GOP nomination from Trump
The Washington Times ^ | 4/13/2016 | S.A. Miller

Sen. Ted Cruz’s hopes for winning the Republican presidential nomination outright have faded, and he has shifted to a strategy of gaming the rules, angling to send enough double-agent delegates to the July convention to snatch victory from front-runner Donald Trump.

It’s a major reversal for Mr. Cruz, who just weeks ago insisted he would win the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination before the convention. But major wins in Utah, Wisconsin and Colorado have not closed the gap, with a series of East Coast primaries looming.

Now the best option for the senator from Texas is trench warfare at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Helloooo Senator Cruz. Are you deaf?

He seems to have lost perspective, this run has driven him a little bit nuts.

Bringing in the GOP elites to his campaign in a year that most voters want a real outsider was either a mistake on his part, or he really is a Trojan horse who the establishment has bought.

If he were to become the tool to prevent Trump from winning against the establishment, I wouldn't be surprised if that same establishment figures out how to take it from him as well. I am stunned that so many of his supporters here think that would never happen.

Either way, if he doesn't come to his senses soon, I think he'll have made himself a paraiah to the right, will still be disliked by the GOP elites, and may make himself a target of disdain for a generation.

He needs to wise up and stop this nonsense before he destroys himself, and the chances we have of beating Hillary. If he effs that one up, he may become the most hated person on the right ever.

You don't understand the meaning behind the whole MERRY CHRISTMAS thing! LOL Trump is destroying PC!

Really? Well in case you haven't figured it out yet this has gone beyond the cultural realm and into the realm of lawfare.

Trump is fighting yesterday's battle, if he is at all. So either you believe Trump, as a politician, is going to institute a massive cultural sea change or he is going to approach this in a juridical manner. Telling people, "we're going to say Merry Christmas again in this country," does not speak to that understanding.

I don't know what his daughter did or did not do re what's in your post. But she's an ADULT! Adult children don't ask their parents permission before donating money to someone.

Well, if that's your defense for donating to the sanctuary city queen of California, i.e., Harris, who can argue with that.

I support and agree with every word in your posting.

Glenn Beck’s support of Cruz should have served as the first (and only) necessary RED FLAG for FReepers!

I mean, Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Crazy, unstable, off-his meds Glenn Beck! And worse yet, Rafael Cruz embracing Beck and allowing, no make that welcoming Beck on the campaign trail with him!

I won’t mention Rafael Cruz’s father, because I try to keep family out of the mix ...

I’ll start and finish with Beck.

Mr. Trump has the very finest supporting him.

Senator Sessions to cite the premium and Mr. Trump is his first and only endorsement in his entire career.

Roger Stone was the first one to talk about Cruz getting his own “sleeper agent” delegates into slots that Trump won by winning the primary. “Sleeper agent” delegates that still must vote Trump on the first ballot but can vote Cruz after this.

To be fair, Cruz has some other decent endorsements.

Not sure if Caitlyn Jenner is so great......:-)

I prefer the list on Trump's side, but even more, I prefer the strength Trump brings to the table.

If Cruz were hit by one tenth of what Trump has been hit by, he would be polling at about 10%. Hillary will hit him with even more, and I just don't think Cruz can deal with her.

It's called leadership, or what we used to call "executive" experience. Knowing how to get things done rather than knowing how to cleverly debate are two entirely different things. If anyone thinks the left is going to back down if someone from the GOP wins in the fall, they are sorely mistaken. The left will lash out like a bunch of banshees, and to do the things conservatives want will take strength, staying power, and the ability to form a narrative. Trump has those things.

Like I said, (and I am not sure Cruz realizes this, and neither do his supporters) he is risking throwing all the good will genuine conservatives have towards him and losing it all by enlisting the GOP elites to help him win this thing.

Oh and a double Amen about Beck.

That Cruz hasn't distanced himself from that nut ball is beyond hapless.

Cruz tries to win like a worm tongue lawyer. In comparison Trump leads frontal assaults on a white charger.

DO YOU HAVE ANY CHILDREN?

AS AN ADULT, HAVE YOU ALWAYS TALKED WITH YOUR PARENTS, PRIOR TO MAKING EVERY POLITICAL DECISION/DONATION?

A president can influence the culture, sans laws and/or dictates.

PCism is NOT "yesterday's battle"!

If you claim that we all can and should hold his eldest daughter's political donation against him, then Heidi Cruz, Teddy's wife, is MORE than fair game. RIGHT ?

Your projection complex has reached the terminal stage. Seek help ASAP!

I posted FACTS!

After all, the past is the prologue of the present and based on what I have seen and heard, what I posted about Ted V. Hillary is inarguable; unlike the utter crap you posted.

Then there is the FACT that the disaffected Dems, blacks, Hispanics, blue collar workers, etc, whom Trump has brought in, are loyal to him. If he is not the nominee, they are NEVER going to vote for Cruz! If they had the slightest interest in doing that, they would NOT be Trumpites!

The other FACT, re Blue states being in play,is absolutely TRUE, should Trump be the nominee. Teddy couldn't even win the South, which was supposed to be "his" somehow and has extremely poor favorability ratings in the BLUE states and the Purple ones too; unlike Trump!

Simply put, you don't know what you're talking about, have less than no acumen for politics, and wouldn't know a FACT if it bit you on the nose and clawed your eyes out!

You make stellar points. Save for slight attacks by Donald Trump, Cruz has enjoyed smooth sailing. THAT changes immediately IF, by chance, Cruz manages to wrangle the GOP nomination.

Cruz won’t know what hit him until he’s trying to wrest his body from the floor after his first TKO from both Hillary and the MSM!

Saint Rafael Ted Cruz would be in for examinations like never before.

I’m certain he doesn’t want his father’s immigration into our country examined and I’m certain he doesn’t want his Canadian citizenship examined and those are just two issues.

HarleyLady27, who’s very intelligent and extremely resourceful has done her own research; ... with amazing and very disturbing results, I might add ... but MSM and opposition research are bound to discover even more.

Candidate Senator Cruz would be best advised to try to win this nomination on the up and up and NOT through the use of delegate shenanigans.

VOTE TRUTH
VOTE TRUMP

A president can influence the culture, sans laws and/or dictates.

And you believe Trump will have such an influence? Will he retaliate against companies that go after states like Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina? Or is his invective reserved for the likes of Ford and Carrier? I don't think so. Trump doesn't have the courage to do anything of the sort. Trump's schtick is to throw out the 'safe' populist red meat to his followers

PCism is NOT "yesterday's battle"!

As expressed by Trump it is. Here's the problem: your faith in Trump has lead you to believe that his refrain about saying Merry Christmas encompasses an entire legal, legislative and regulatory strategy where this battle is now being fought. If that's all you have then you don't have much of anything. Cruz has spoken at length on his plan.

If you claim that we all can and should hold his eldest daughter's political donation against him, then Heidi Cruz, Teddy's wife, is MORE than fair game. RIGHT?

You should note I said Trump and his daughter. You're free to do as you please. But when California conservatives find out that Trump is a supporter of Kamala Harris he'll be done in California.

Heh.

I'm thinking those were not such "slight" attacks on Cruz by Trump.

:-)

I actually don't like that stuff so much, but it's how he's going to defeat the left, and why Cruz cannot.

Good night ma'am, always pleasant to get your point of view. Sleep well.

In 2015 nuclear energy giant Exelon was paying poor black people $15 or $15/hour to sit in the hearings of the DC Public Service Commission with matching green shirts and matching pro Exelon signs. Also promising community groups money to support them at the hearing, and $50 to each ratepayer. Since the PSC has voted 2 to 1 for Exelon, DC,MD, DE, and NJ are all stuck with Exelon’s 23 aging nuclear plants many of which have licenses due to expire in the next 10 years and cost over $1 billion to decommission.
