The Daily 202: Ted Cruz’s war with Matt Drudge could become a huge problem for his campaign
WaPo ^ | 12 Apr 2016 | James Hohmann

Posted on 04/12/2016 8:08:52 AM PDT by mandaladon

The Drudge Report has aggressively portrayed Ted Cruz’s sweep of all the delegates from Colorado’s Republican convention as a corrupt power grab.

The site named for Matt Drudge, who broke the story of Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky and still runs it, links to nine stories this morning with salacious headlines about the convention. Among them: “Savage: Cruz should disavow rigged Colorado election … Buchanan: Apparatchiks thieve delegates for Ted … 1 MILLION REPUBLICANS SIDELINED … Border Patrol Agents: Colorado Voters Disenfranchised.” Keep in mind that this is three days after the Colorado convention.

Our analytics partners at Zignal Labs say the Drudge attacks are breaking through on social media in a significant way. This word cloud, which tracks all Cruz mentions since Saturday, shows the extent to which Drudge has shaped the conversation about Cruz’s win in Colorado. Note the prominence of the words “cheating” and “drudge”:

This kind of squabbling will only get louder as the delegate wrestling and wrangling intensifies. And it has clearly gotten under Cruz’s skin.

In a radio interview yesterday, the Texas senator ripped into Drudge as an arm of Donald Trump’s campaign. “In about the past month, the Drudge Report has basically become the attack site for the Trump campaign,” he told conservative host Mike Slater. “So every day they have the latest Trump attack. They’re directed at me. … Most days they have a six-month-old article that is some attack on me, and it’s whatever the Trump campaign is pushing that day will be the banner headline on Drudge.”

“By the way, they no longer cover news,” Cruz added of Drudge. “When we win a state, suddenly the state doesn’t matter. You know Colorado — there was no red siren on Drudge when we won all 34 delegates in Colorado.”

Pookie, Ted Cruz used Stalin-style tactics in Colorado. Does that make you feel any better? Drudge is a news aggregator. He doesn’t create any of these stories. They are out there. He didn’t run the NE sex scandal did he?

Listen to yourself! You sound like some Commissar preparing to torture a capitalist running dog!

I believe you. I wish we could get an accurate monetary total [for all the negative/attack ads aimed at Trump].

Radio interview in California? Why is Ted Cruz scared to campaign in New York?

Key point here. It’s going to get ugly for Cruz quick if Drudge really turns both barrels on him.

Think about this folks.
How many places are backing Trump?
The Eagle Forum and Matt Drudge are probably the only two.
Look what happened to the Eagle Forum yesterday.
Ted is now on attack mode against Matt Drudge.
Think about that.
Ted can’t stand ANY (at all) opposition.
The guy is a childish immature freak!

Folks, you better hope this guy never gets ANY real power.

YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN!!

Ted “A Time For Lies” Cruz is not a strategic thinker. He’s proving that fact every day.

Trump is clearly winning the public perception war with ammunition the other candidates give him. Stupid of them, normal for Trump

Well you watch some more re-runs then, and feel free to share.

I am beginning to think that Ted Cruz really doesn’t want this as much as he thought. He obviously sold his soul to get this chance, but now he is counting the cost. Pray he finally accepts Jesus Christ and repents!

That 70 million is low

It was around that in Florida alone

And didn’t change the election one point. Cruz would wilt under a fraction of that heat.

From the site:

VISITS TO DRUDGE 4/12/16

029,248,569 PAST 24 HOURS
843,442,786 PAST 31 DAYS
8,692,836,717 PAST YEAR

Florida results:

Trump -- 1,077,221-- 45.7%

Rubio -- 636,653-- 27.0%

Cruz -- 403,640-- 17.1%

Kasich -- 159,412-- 6.8%

Arguably, Trump's most impressive win in a vital battleground state. He beat Rubio in his home state by over 400,000 votes and Cruz by 670,000 votes.

If it had been any other candidate with such a win, the primaries would have been over by now. After McCain won FL in 2008 he was declared the putative nominee with only 33% of the vote. Romney suspended his campaign after FL. The GOPe wants to stop Trump at all costs from reaching 1,237. Cruz is their last best hope to do that, which is why the GOPe donor class is flooding Cruz with funds for more attack ads against Trump. Cruz will not be the nominee, at least for President.

But, you all thought Trump attacking the media was smart.

Maybe, this is Cruz learning from Trump?

that’s okay Ted if your ever going to be President ....these are the final votes you have to get to do it

Justice Clarence Thomas
Chief Justice John G. Roberts
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Justice Sonia Sotomayor
Justice Stephen G. Breyer
Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr.
Justice Elena Kagan

So how many pro Cruz vs pro Hillary votes do you count in this bunch?

Hey genius....FL was winner-take-all. Trump could have won the popular vote by 1 vote and still would have won all the delegates.

“Ted Cruz really doesn’t want this as much as he thought”

I lived in MA. when Gov. Dukakis ran against Bush 1. His advisers and political groupies convinced him to run based on his record as governor; They called it the Massachusetts Miracle.

He had early success, but when the going got tough, he simply gave up and wanted to go home to be governor again; turned out he really never wanted it. Problem was that by then the economy in MA. started to tank because he chased businesses out with his tax policies. The voters fired him.

They didn't make it up out of thin air.

Rubio was pushing it for months. It was well known in DC.

The video is still out there. That will convince a lot of people even without one of his honeys coming clean. But one of his honeys will probably come clean, too. The GOPe has been able to tamp it down for now, so they can continue to deny delegates to Trump. But they'll bring it out when they need to.
