This was an issue that should have been promulgated by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, but then she had no use for feminine hygiene products. Now all she needs is dental floss.

This is one of the most stupid initiatives ever. Since it will have minimal impact on family finances (yes, saving that $1.50 a year on sales tax on feminine products makes a big difference!), it is pure political theater. The democrats are using this to make themselves look generous while giving nothing at all.

It is a way of providing some tax relief So, you admit that the tax burden is something that needs "relief"...
for women everywhere
... for some of the people.

Wow, this is great, taxes going down. Maybe Maryland has some hope of getting rid of the “rain tax”.

There should be no tampon tax. Period.

It is a way of providing some tax relief to women everywhere, young girls in particular, senator Diane Savino said. Gotta love that quote. On top of that, who ever classified tampons as a luxury item in the first place?

When I first heard of the proposal to eliminate the tax on tampons because it was ‘discriminatory’ towards women, I thought it was ridiculous.
However, I don’t think of tampons as being a ‘luxury’ that should be taxed, if discretionary taxes are a part of the state tax code to distinguish between items purchased simply for pleasure and products necessary for health, hygiene and physical well-being.
Of course, I also object to its being used as a play for votes, so the timing sucks, as it’s pretty transparent that this is what it’s all about...

I’ve always thought that making services nobody wants to use but everyone gets stuck with, like auto or appliance repairs, subject to sales tax was adding insult to injury.
