Good point. Americans can be jailed and caged for forgetting to pay an infraction like parking ticket, yet Goldman Sachs is guilty of wide scale fraud on a national level, and not one person is jailed.
They've corrupted our system to the core.
My opinion is that the politicians forced the lending institutions into issuing mortgages to less then credit worthy individuals. The mortgage companies package and sell their mortgages in order to have capital to start the cycle over. The problem the politicians created a mortgage which a normal investor would not want to buy since it was sub-par. So a plan was developed to move these sub-par mortgages. The only problem is that the sub-par mortgages were backed with the full faith and credit of the US Government.
So the tax payer just keeps on paying for the politicians' effort to buy votes!
