Howdy. Yes, we went out for a little while. We came home and he went to bed early because he’s getting up at 5 a.m. to go to AL with a buddy to a big car show.

This weekend, I’ll be posting the kind of classical music you can enjoy while spinning around in your chair and otherwise acting like your inner child.
The finale of this concerto is a tarantella, suitable for actually getting out of your chair and dancing around. It’s wild.
This movement from an early work was a huge hit, later transcribed for piano, string quartet and even hurdy-gurdy. There came a point where Lou couldn’t walk down the street in Vienna without hearing it, which is why he said, “I wish I’d never written the damn thing!” It’s a lot of fun for moving your chair about.

This opera is based on “The King’s Jester,” by Victor Hugo. Just as Hugo had problems with the censors in France, Verdi had problems with the censors in French-controlled northern Italy. He ended up setting it in the fictional dukedom of Mantua.
Here the Duke sings of the pleasures of bedding different women, “This woman or that.” Verdi uses a 3/4 time signature to simulate the rhythms of – (AHEM! COUGH! COUGH!) – well, you know.
