Tumbling sales of Fiat Chryslers main midsize car have driven the company to indefinitely lay off 1,300 employees at a Detroit-area factory.
Workers on the second shift at Fiat Chryslers assembly plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, will be furloughed starting July 5 as the slow-selling Chrysler 200 has started to stack up on dealer lots.
Sales of the cars were down 61 percent through March, and inventory grew to a 150-day supply, according to Wards Automotive. Automakers consider 60 days to be optimal to give dealers enough of a selection for customers. Fiat Chrysler sold only 7,500 of the cars last month, less than half the number it sold a year ago.

Ugly, nondescript cars make for poor sales.

The 200’s a problematic car on top of being a plain midsize.

Production to Mexico was announced last September. Has Trump mentioned it?

Better go call for Barry-O!

Change the name to Chrysler 100 and they will sell twice as fast.
Chrysler 200 has been the recipient of some horrendous reviews.

I’m not shocked at all that you think so. You’ve probably never been here. Most people who comment about Detroit never have.
How can this be??? Racist lies, I tell you. Clown [prince nobama recently assured us that the economy is wonderful.
Read this on Daily Job Cuts...........
A lot more closing and job cuts...one wonders why the poverty level is at its highest since 1956.
How about making better cars? Bring back the ‘69 Charger.
There are just too many good cars in that size and price range.
Not to worry, they’ll each find two part time jobs saying “Fries with that?”, and we’ll have another month of solid jobs gains.
Until the robots come along.
The modern muscle cars are stuck on small blocks and mega-horsepower. And Dodge is stuck on its “retro” Challenger.
