We spoiled Europe. After the war, we felt guilty, so we did any fighting that needed to be done while Europe spent its tax money on good things for itself. Now they are soft and cannot repel invaders.
We did the same to Japan but the Japanese may not be as spoiled.
People say keeping a military force in readiness is not a good reason to fight a war but maybe it is.
