On Monday, it was revealed that the TSA had paid $1.4 million for an app that points an arrow either to the left or to the right. Chris Pacia, a programmer, posted a video on YouTube showing how it's possible to code an identical app in 10 minutes for about $10 worth of labor.
Watch for yourself here:
Creating the $1.4 million TSA app
While it's almost certain that a sizeable chunk of the $1.4 million went to hardware and training, it's still absurd that at least $300,000 was spent on an app that virtually any basic programmer could have come up with in less than an hour. Something isn't adding up.
Who got the kickback?
Yeah, who?
A shuffled deck of cards will give you 52! or about 8 x 10^67 combinations.
President Thomas Whitmore: I don't understand, where does all this come from? How do you get funding for something like this?
Julius Levinson: You don't actually think they spend $20,000 on a hammer, $30,000 on a toilet seat, do you?
Yes, but he didn’t have to fly to DC 11 times with 8 staffers for the required meetings and briefings. And he didn’t have to wine and dine the purchasing staff at the strip club.
He didn’t have to have 7 different versions ready for higher approval, or pay 10% to the “Lobbyist” that connected him with the right purchasing agent.
And, he didn’t have to give a 5-10% skim to certain Democrat “Social Justice Orgs” to be eligible for the contract.
Flip a penny. Heads is left and tails is right.
Who needs an app to point left or right? Just play spin the bottle and save a load of cash.
And then you need to train some dolt to stand and hold an iPad that has a random arrow. How random can it get when it can only point left or right?
I guess they need extra surly attitude training.
Back when my office crew had a hard time deciding where to go for lunch each day, I wrote a VB app we called the “Random Lunch Generator”.
Click the Button and a random number generator selected a restaurant from the list of our favorites.
Easy-peasy!
(maybe I can sell it to Uncle Sam for big bucks!)
IOW, any idiot could write an app like this!
Sounds like you’ve been there.
Well look at the Obama-scam-O-care non-affordable health care crock website, what did that cost? $600 million and it was programmed in Canada? By foreigners? I was on that site a few weeks ago and it was down
Nobody ever got fired buying IBM, even if they got ripped off...
Ok, where are the documents that were created for the app?
Requirements document.
User’s guide.
Test procedure.
Test results.
Version Description.
Security guide.
Govt contracts usually require these at least.
Many people could have built an app to actually profile passengers for half of that.
Your tax dollars at play.
Ummm...why do we even need some idiot pointing people left and right? How have we managed without this is the past?
Someone's crony became an instant millionaire.
