San Francisco became the first place in the country Tuesday to require businesses to provide fully paid leave for new parents in what was hailed as the latest move to address income inequality in the nation.

The measure approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors will give new mothers and fathers six weeks of fully paid time off, a rarity now offered to some government sector workers and some private employees, particularly those who work in the tech industry. […]

The measure requires another formal vote by the board next week as well as approval by Mayor Ed Lee, who says he is happy to sign it.

Small business owners complained that the mandate is the latest in a long list of city mandates — including paid sick leave and health coverage — that unfairly targets them. …

This is what is called an “unfunded mandate” when the federal government does it to state governments.

California is going to become a strange place. All those people and no business left to provide them jobs.

How does paying for not working provide “income inequality” and just what is “income inequality”?

When will companies fight these unconstitutional laws? NOTHING in any constitution allows the government to fix prices.

I want some fully-paid leave as compensation for all the taxes I pay to benefit families with children, which I don’t have any of!

Why in the name of God would any business actually locate in that city? It is nice, I have been there, but the truth is that nice weather and natural beauty doesn’t make up for the massive amount of graffiti, homeless panhandlers, expensive and intrusive government. Not to mention how unaffordable it is to live there.

What it’s going to do is attract more people, while companies exit.

As I think about it though, since SF has a huge homosexual population, and lot’s of young singles who don’t want kids, this may not have as big an impact as I first thought.

I imagine, though, a homosexual couple who adopts a child will receive the same benefits.

“I see a Legal battle coming from LGBT adaptive parents.”

I’m sure they’re already included in the bill.

So how can I have a baby every 6 weeks?

So a rabbit won’t have to ever work again?

No, it’ll have a huge effect. If the city has fewer businesses to squeeze for the “revenue”, then their redistribution programs fall apart.

Politicians never seem to learn. Years ago, when companies were leaving the North for non-union and lower wage states in the South, Ohio passed a law that said that any company that closed its doors must leave 6 months wages with the state as an “exit tax”. A few months later, the politicians couldn’t figure out why new business formations in the state were zero and job growth was negative. To their credit, they took the tax off the books, but still...you’d think they might have thought that through a little more deeply.

SF is going to pay dearly for this stupidity and Pelosi, once again, is going to harm the very people she tells everyone she’s going to help. Oh...and all those idiots who think they now have a $15/hr job, let’s see how that works out for you by this time next year.Start collecting your cardboard now cuz you’re gonna need a place to sleep in the not too distant future.

That makes no sense.

We were just there, they slap a surcharge on purchases, hotels, restaurants etc, in addition to sales tax to pay for the “free” benefits.

What I mean is that with the big homosexual population the number of children born will be less than it would be in a “normal” city, thus the impact will be less, but I’m sure enough to still drive out some businesses.

A though just occurred to me. Will this lead businesses to hire more homosexuals?
