The Founders’ Law of Nature wasn't a new concept. Before Christianity, Cicero wrote of higher law, the law of nature. St. Augustine and St.Thomas Aquinas wrote extensively of the hierarchy of law, beginning with the Divine Law. Enlightenment philosophers also wove God's laws with the law of reason. This train of thought served western civilization very well.
