Santorum needed 3/4 of the remaining delegates in 2012. As of right now, Cruz needs 81%, Trump needs 52%, according to Forbes.

Yes, but Rick Santorum was clearing the way for the establishment (Mitt Romney), while Ted Cruz is busy being their useful idiot.

It looks like Romney, Paul, and Gingrich were still in when he withdrew. It's not equivalent to today's race.
