Gov. Mark Dayton (MN) has forbidden state employees from business travel to North Carolina as a reaction to that state’s recent law banning local anti-discrimination policies.
The North Carolina law passed last week bans transgender people from using locker rooms and bathrooms designated for the gender with which they identify. The law enacts a statewide anti-discrimination policy, but one that not does specifically provide protections for gay and transgender men and women and prohibits local municipalities from enacting their own anti-discrimination policies. Arkansas and Tennessee passed similar laws in 2014 and 2011, respectively.
