Conservative groups are banking on a Ted Cruz victory in Tuesdays Wisconsin primary to halt Donald Trumps momentum and convince increasingly dubious millionaires to keep funding the "Never Trump" movement.
We really see it as a game changer, said Doug Sachtleben, communications director at the Club for Growth, one of the three main conservative groups dropping millions on attack ads against Trump.
While Republican operatives running anti-Trump groups insist publicly that there are no make or break states there is a growing private consensus that a Cruz victory in Wisconsin wouldbe crucial to convince wealthy conservatives who dislike Trump that their money is not being spent in vain.
Dozens of Republican millionaires who are usually reliable in delivering checks when asked have watched their oversized checks evaporate as Jeb Bushs super-PAC spent more than $100 million in a failed effort to nominate the former Florida governor. Trump meanwhile, spent virtually nothing on paid media, and a number of donors began questioning the efficacy of paid advertising against a reality TV star with a unique talent for commanding and manipulating free media.

But but, they aren’t “Pro Cruz”. He doesn’t know anything about them! They are completely separate!
Yet another opportunity to waste money. Cruz will soon join Bush at the Republican Paupers Club.
Cruz is just a tool being used by the likes of Club for Growth. They’ll toss him when he’s done there dirty work.
What growth? The only growth the GOP Congress has allowed is the GROWTH of the debt! GO TRUMP!
He might win Wisconsin but from there it looks bleak.
Ted and his kamacruzies don’t care. They think they can steal the nomination and then the thousands of Trump supporters who stood in line for hours will accept it.
They are delusional on so many dimensions.
Ted sCruz his Bang of 5, he will not win WI.
Millions of people will turn out to vote for Cruz, the complete GOPe shill who has no realistic mathematical hope for securing the nomination and will go down like a glass jaw fairy in a convention fight. He is only there to deny the 1,237 delegates for the frontrunner. Kasich too.
At this point the primary motivating force behind Cruz’s candidacy is hatred for Donald Trump.
Hillary supporters too. The best thing for her is a divisive convention. Even better if the guy with the most delegates loses.
Hope it works as well as Recall Walker did.
No doubt if Cruz wins WI, the story will be “The race is changing” and that mantra will go on for 2 weeks, and yes likely get some more donors... until of course New York votes, and Cruz gets trounced again, and reality sets back in.
Cruz has no path to victory
Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska he will likely win.
He may pull out a win in WI, but then where else? Maybe IN? Or a small New England state surprise... but where else? And Trump will continue to dominate elsewhere, and easily get more than 55% of remaining delegates needed to 1237.
But lets play devils advocate... lets say Cruz and Kasich keep Trump from 1237, or the RNC changes the rules to ensure Trump can’t win and raises the number to 2000 delegates....
You wind up with a contested convention, and guess what happens then? We wind up with a NONE OF THE ABOVE nominee, and wind up destroyed up and down the ballot in November because the RNC literally just gave the finger to the voters.
Watching the Republican Party destroy itself willingly shows just how incredibly stupid these guys are, and why this nation is where it is.
Those guys ponied up with Jeb, and they saw where that got them.
Not to mention, Trump has already signaled that he's got no problem calling out the big money donors and revealing their motivations. Those that operate in the shadows don't like the sunshine.
