During Starbucks 2016 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Starbucks chairman and ceo Howard Schultz expanded on a question he posed two years ago: What is the role and responsibility of a for-profit company? Today, Schultz asked partners (employees), shareholders and thousands who watched the live web broadcast: What is the role and responsibility of all of us, as citizens?
Schultz said he has struggled for weeks to find the right words to express the pain I feel in my heart about where America is headed and the cloud hanging over the American people. And he said there are times when hes had a hard time recognizing who we are and who we are becoming.
Two years ago, on the same stage in Seattle, Schultz challenged shareholders to think about the role and responsibility of a for-profit company. In the two years since, dysfunction and polarization have worsened, he said.
Viewing the American Dream as a reservoir that is replenished with the values, work ethic and integrity of the American people, Schultz said, Sadly, our reservoir is running dry, depleted by cynicism, despair, division, exclusion, fear and indifference.

Reap what you sow and live in glass houses comes to mind!
I call for $.50 grande caramel mocha’s too.
If his answer is anything other than making money for its shareholders within the bounds of the law, he needs to be fired.
Uhhhh....your responsibility is to provide quality foods and a reasonable return to stockholders. And maybe not try to force me into saying grande when I want a medium coffee.
All are to be expected results, Howard, when a culture turns it back on God.
Schultz. Its ONLY COFFEE
HOT WATER THRU COFFEE GROUNDS
DOESNT MAKE YOU OR YOUR OPINION IMPORTANT
in the real word
PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING ANYMORE BS
He makes coffee so therefore he should be running the world.
The man is an absolute genius.
He sells 30 cents worth of product for 3 bucks.
I have no idea how he pulled it off, but he did.
Even the left understand America is shattered.
That is Obama’s lasting legacy
You’re a little behind the curve with your magical thinking.
Howard Schultz...the ultimate Concern Troll.
I have no idea how he pulled it off, but he did.
It's not mysterious. He sells a regular, 12-oz. cup of coffee (regular or dark roast) for less than the local Dunkin' Donuts (about $1.60 in my neck of the woods). And it's waaaay better coffee.
You can add all the weird stuff to your brew and get the price of your order up to multiple bucks, but the distinguisher over Dunkin' really is a consistently good-tasting product at any price level and a cleaner, more comfortable place to sit down. Service is generally quick and gracious either place.
I quit Starbucks when they thought they knew better than me what I should think. Refuse to drink their colored water ever since.
With that kind of corporate leadership?
And people like Obama, Hillary and Kerry in office?
I know the answer.
the coffee filter in his brain is clogged.
LOL.....assuming he HAS a brain.
Indeed! ( here, he sells 30 cents worth of watered- down, tasteless product for $5) — genius!!! If he wants values in his business. He can start by putting some coffee in his coffee so we can taste coffee when we pay $5 for coffee. But that’s probably too simple for starfucks. They seem to prefer pushing homosexuality instead?

The only time I went to Starbux (which was to purchase some Christmas gift cards on an assignment from my dear spouse) people were lined up outside the door 14 deep. On a Saturday morning in November.
The business plan is ABSOLUTE GENIUS!!
I don’t understand it, but they make fantastic money.
