I have been having this discussion with some friends of mine who are in the Trump or Cruz camps, and people have come up with interesting ideas. Here is the question:
If the GOP race goes to a contested convention, and Trump and Cruz cannot be the nominee, who WOULD you support to be the nominee? In other words, who is your second best choice if Trump or Cruz cannot be the nominee?
John Galt
Elmer Fudd
Romney? Doesn’t GOPe have a forum?
Scott Walker.
I don’t know the answer to your question. Maybe he tried to rid us of the disease known as the UN, or have us go in that direction. Or maybe he did not.
But he understands that keeping the borders wide open and allowing foreign invaders in here who mean us harm is national suicide. And we’re mighty close to the point of no return now.
I agree if they allow citizenship of 12 million, we will never win another presidential election.
and go on to lose florida, NY, new England, Michigan, Ohio, the west and all the other blue and purplish states.
I just couldn't do it. I'd like to pretend it was a courageous stand, but it wasn't. I live in a deep red state. I knew it wouldn't make a difference.
This election has done a lot to open my eyes. I'm seeing very little difference between most Republicans and most Democrats. Some differences on the extreme edges, but most are one big lump, not working to advance my interests. It's getting harder to make the effort.
Newt
Nope, Cruz will win.
I don't want to turn this into Trump-bashing, but the thing that bothered me the most about his campaign were the pointless personal attacks against other candidates to avoid discussing issues. Some of the best moments in the debates were when Cruz, Rubio, Paul, and (to a lesser extent) Christie debated security. Regardless of which side you took, they discussed important issues as adults.
Rand Paul was not "my guy", but he is a serious person who brings some good ideas to the conservative table and should be respected for it. But when Trump led off that one debate with a gratuitous slam at Paul because of his poll numbers "I don't know why you're even up here", it was just shameful. An idea is not a bad idea just because the guy raising it is lower in the polls. Trump turned into the "anti-idea/anti-substance" guy, which was exactly what this party didn't need.
At this point, I just hope whoever wins the nomination can "hold serve" until we can get someone better in there. But it might be too late. I'd be fine with Walker as well, or frankly anyone that won't be (wrongly) associated with conservatism and smear the entire movement through his statements and actions.
Yes and no
hear my thinking
the thing that's driving the uniparty the cheap labor Express... the bad free trade are the elites
the deal between conservatives is always been fair to each other didn't matter if you had big money or little money... the concept behind America was ultimately minimum government Live and Let Live you respect me I respect you... I may not have any money but I don't see myself as a victim of the rich
if the the big money Elites uniparty want to insist on rigging the game importing cheap labor and effectively destroy the middle class
Then MAD mutually assured destruction.... might be our only option Bernie's destruction but at least it's going to destroy the guys that were trying to destroy us
Bernie's a last Resort Revenge weapon against the GOPe Country Club types.. maybe they will think twice if they think basis that pissed off to fire at them.
The Socialists is a doomsday weapon but we didn't start this war and I'm damned if I'm going to let the people that did win it if we go down we both go down
I got to admit im that damn pissed at this point
I would write in Palin
Yes, fully agree.
More interesting perhaps... our secretary is a Hispanic, lifetime democrat and runs the local charter of his union... total opposite of where I stand.
Yesterday we were chatting about the elections and agreed on Trump being acceptable, Sanders being an idiot but perhaps acceptable -- he cannot do anything good but he can shake up things, but the elite machines candidates absolutely not.
Cruz doesn't have a chance in hell .....if he's any kind of threat .....the game is already set up to rule he not naturally born
the powers that be in Washington DC have enough leverage in the Roberts Court ...to get gay marriage.... to get ObamaCare approved
so if the powers that be in Washington DC ..don't want Cruz ....they got excuse to rule him not eligible
and enough clout to make it stick with the general public in the mainstream media
and after 8 years of Obama birthers no one’s going to really think this is all that outrageous
There's an old saying about it doesn't matter how many votes you get it matters who's counting the votes
that also works in law it doesn't matter if the finer points of law might be on your side it matters who is ruling what the law is and that's not going to be anybody friendly to Cruz they've got enough room to easily justify ruling he's not eligible ....
if he did get to run.... watch the VP choice will be it'll be definitely be a GOPe man ...in place to pick up the pieces once he's removed should he win
if DC is really the snake pit the most of us here think it is...
and if Cruz is the White Knight that you think he is and is going to go try and clean out the snake pit.....
Then you know what I'm telling you is absolutely 100% true
Cruz has an Achilles heel kill switch... they can take him out at their at their Leisure if he's any kind of threat to their power
he's already dead man walking
Maine Governor Paul LePage
Interesting post. Thanks.
`None of the Above’ would be my choice.
I’ll write in Trump’s name... then I’ll never vote for another Republican as long as I live...
