As the first quarter of 2016 nears an end, violence in Chicago has reached levels unseen in years, putting the city on course to top 500 homicides for only the second time since 2008.
As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, homicides totaled 135, a 71 percent jump over the 79 killings in the same year-earlier period, official Police Department statistics show. That represented the worst first quarter of a year since 136 homicides in 1999, according to the data.
Shootings have jumped by comparable numbers as well. As of Wednesday, at least 727 people had been shot in Chicago so far this year, a 73 percent rise from 422 a year earlier, according to a Tribune analysis of department data.
Worse yet, that jump follows two consecutive years in which shootings rose by double digits, the analysis found. Homicides also rose by about 12.5 percent last year over 2014.

The murder rate is not high enough. It’s going to take too long to clear out that vipers nest at that rate.
They should have really strict gun control laws to stop that. /s
Chicago is the gladiatorial practice arena for mass public mayhem ... only the strong and most evil will survive.
They need some gun laws. Like, give everyone a gun. Have at it..... And ask the police to stand back.
It would probably be best to break Chicago up into different cities. The South side could merge with...Gary, IN.

A year ago I emailed Mayor Rhambo and asked him to deputize the Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense (conveniently located in nearby Indiana), team them with the ATF, and clean the illegal guns out of the Chicago ‘hood.
So far, no reply....
They should give out BLM Awards every month to the shooter with the highest score.
There is a second factor: Demographics.
I suspect that obama is sending weapons to the drug dealers in Chicago so there are more murders and then the democrats can campaign against the 2nd amendment......... Do they speak Spanish in Chicago?
