I read that all of the Germans who became POW’s in France after June 1944 became prisoners of the French. They did not go to POW camps in the United States like the Germans captured in Tunisia. Naturally, the French did not treat German POW’s as well as the Americans did. The French “offered” their German POW’s a chance to join the French Foreign Legion and shipped them to Vietnam.

Turned into quite the scandal for France. They were actually winning the war with former SS at the spearhead since those guys killed without compunction. The outcry about the Foreign Legion harboring war criminals forced the French to boot them all out. Do we actually need to say from that point they never won another battle?

Does make me wonder what would happen if we actually let the US Marines loose on ISIS....

In 1945 USA put out a dragnet for every nazi era German scientist, engineer, and intelligence officer / spy possible to find and hire to work for America. Thousands including some genuine nazis. And where did much of our space program come from?

Yep, the FFL was full of Germans after the war................. also Ukrainians, Latvians, Belorussians et.al., many expatriates who were volunteers in the Wafen SS. There is a book about it, I believe it was called “The Devils Brigade”, it covers the French post war involvement in Indochina. The French needed people who were experts in anti partisan tactics.

Does make me wonder what would happen if we actually let the US Marines loose on ISIS.... ........ So long as they don’t set up a base camp in a valley like the French did with Dien Bien Phu. Want to get rid of ISIS? You don’t need Marines, the USAF can vaporize them. Declare total war against ISIS and let them feel the real burn. When the ground troops arrive, they can pick up the pieces.
