The Cruz campaign has gone on record supporting women getting abortions. The campaign says there should be no punishment for those women if abortion is illegal. Deadline Hollywood reports:
Ted Cruz campaign chairman Chad Sweet...this afternoon told CNNs Jake Tapper that Cruz believes in punishment for doctors who perform abortions, not the women who get them.
Pro-life supporters are scratching their heads. If they succeed in getting a pro-life amendment, Ted Cruz appears to be saying that the amendment should contain some kind of non-culpability clause, so that Congress can write any law resulting from a Life Amendment in a manner that allows women to have abortions in this country with no worries about the law.
In fact, since Cruz thinks only doctors should be punished, if a nurse or other type of provider performs the abortion, then the odd situation of a Life Amendment with abortions still being performed will be the result. The bottom line is that Ted Cruz has no problem with women having abortions.
One has to wonder sometimes about lawyers.
This whole election season has just been one facepalm moment after another, from all of the candidates.
So, we are now to assume that the neonatal baby has no legal standing. Why, then, should abortion be made illegal?
Trump is not pro abortion. It’s a shame that some Cruz supporters jumped on him for saying that abortion should be punished. I’m shocked.
If there are no consequences to breaking a law then why have the law in the first place?
So, then, Cruz has also come out against any pro-life amendment, hasn’t he?
But now that is has been said once it will repeated ad nauseum by every seminary poster here. Facts don’t matter.
No one? You couldn’t be more wrong.
Oh BS. Enough with the lies already.
No one believes that women should be thrown in jail for abortions.
It appears so.
This whole election season have been craziness.
It is a paradox...if abortions illegal... how illegal is something that is has no punishment.... especially when you consider abortion murder so you know you’re saying murder but it has no punishment
Cruz trying to contrast his statement against Trump
With Trump taken the harder position
The very first sentence of the lead post, for starters.
We’re trying to win hearts and minds.
Yes, punish women but I don’t think so for men was supremely stupid.
There’s a reason why the entire pro-life efforts of a generation have avoided this quagmire.
You can proclaim the entire pro-life movement to be now pro-choice because they don’t back Trump’s now walked back position until you’re blue in the face.
It doesn’t make it true.
It’s not a lie. Women should be home free to have any abortion they want.
Cruz wants it both ways. Too bad, Ted.
Stupid: the main part: the one that says we need to punish women who get abortions. This was settled back in 1973.
Dishonest: the part that says not wanting to punish women who obtain abortions is the same thing as promoting abortion.
Clear enough now?
When is a law not a law? When it’s not enforced.
So TC is saying that even if murder is illegal, we’ll just make it de facto legal by refusing to enforce it.
TC has lost his holier-than-thou credentials, and now he’s jeopardizing his Constitutional credentials as well.
What will Mr. Cruz not compromise in order to win an election?
Horseshit.
