Cruz Comes Out for Abortion: Even If Abortion is Illegal 'Women Who Get Them' Should Not Be Punished
Editorial ^ | 30 Mar 16 | Xzins

Posted on 03/30/2016 2:07:44 PM PDT by xzins

The Cruz campaign has gone on record supporting women getting abortions. The campaign says there should be no punishment for those women if abortion is illegal. Deadline Hollywood reports:

Ted Cruz campaign chairman Chad Sweet...this afternoon told CNN’s Jake Tapper that Cruz believes in punishment for doctors who perform abortions, not the women who get them.

Pro-life supporters are scratching their heads. If they succeed in getting a pro-life amendment, Ted Cruz appears to be saying that the amendment should contain some kind of non-culpability clause, so that Congress can write any law resulting from a Life Amendment in a manner that allows women to have abortions in this country with no worries about the law.

In fact, since Cruz thinks only doctors should be punished, if a nurse or other type of provider performs the abortion, then the odd situation of a Life Amendment with abortions still being performed will be the result. The bottom line is that Ted Cruz has no problem with women having abortions.

One has to wonder sometimes about lawyers.

This is a crap story. Even when abortion was almost universally illegal, women who sought abortions were almost never punished.

I’m angry at Cruz for jumping on the bandwagon to condemn Trump’s campaign manager. It is rank opportunism. He should be calling it for what it is, i.e., an absurd, politically-motivated, hit-job.

It’s like watching someone’s mask fall off. I’m to the point that I cannot stand to look at Cruz, or hear him talk.

It has been a rather consistent position of the pro-life mindset that we punish the advocates and practitioners of baby-killing, while doing all we can to support women who are bringing innocent life into the world. The question does arise as to how much the woman herself is an advocate for killing her own child. I think women who take pride in killing innocent offspring ought to be punished, but that punishment would extend only as far as no voting as a citizen (for no state would encourage the slaughter of its own innocent citizenry) and no holding of public office.

When your opponent is digging himself into a hole, its best to stand back and watch.

Ted should have said, “I’ll let Donald continue to explain his position. I’ve always been and always will be Pro-Life.”

[[What a load of garbage. Cruz isn’t supporting women getting abortions.]]

Atni-cruz scum know that but they don’t give a damn about the truth- They know full well that under the law women could not be charged only the doctors giving the abortions could be charged- which has always been the republican’s position- protecting the woman- NOT the doctors- Republicans realize they can not stop a woman fro mgettign an abortion but they also know they CAN go after thsoe performign the abortions to try to stem the tide of abortions-

The scum who hate cruz however are now deceitfully making it appear that Cruz approves of abortion- They are children- twisting everything he says- making him appear like a scumbag no matter what his answer is- or what the truth is- there is hardly any difference between anti-cruz scum and liberals

No, Trump is an idiot for his “punish the woman” argument.

Ted is maintaining the standard conservative position that is the abortion provider who would be punished.

How do you get to “Trumpeters are honest” given his backflips over the last 24 hrs.?

Yes I’m sure that would turn you into a pro cruz supporter immediately should he do so- oh wait- nope- then you’d demand he say something else, then something else, then something else-

Cruz is supposed to know something about the Constitution. In which case, he should know that whether women are prosecuted for abortions is entirely a state matter.

The constitutionally correct way to end abortion is for the GOVERNORS to nullify the Supreme Court’s decisions, and for the President to support them in doing so. The pro-life movement is run by muddleheads. Thus, they have focused all their energy on a constitutional amendment, and none on the GOVERNORS.

Wow.....what a bunch of nonsense.

Cruz has the same position the pro-life movement has.

On the other hand, Trump has clearly not thought much about it which might explain why he’s flip flopped on the issue.

Oh yeah, Trump’s flopped again and retracted his statement that women should be punished. So are you now saying that The Trump campaign has gone on record supporting women getting abortions?

Good grief...the lows the Trump followers will go is just incredible.

So, you support women having no consequences whatsoever for participating in an abortion? That sounds pro-abortion to me.

That makes every pro-life organization in the country pro-abortion.

“If there are no consequences to breaking a law then why have the law in the first place?”

I’d be happy to see the willing “providers” and “facilitators” charged with some degree of murder.

The punishment for the woman should be having her uterus pulled out by a log chain and a 4x4.... (being sarcastic )

Abortion is it’s own psychological and sometimes physical punishment as complications can make the women infertile and the psychological toll can bear deep scars.

The only way you could punish a woman for abortion would be if she was a sociopath who was delibertly getting pregnant to deliberately get multiple abortions for either profit of some sort of sick pleasure.

Huh?

Trump reversed himself and now says women should not be punished for having an abortion.

So are you now saying that the Trump campaign has gone on record supporting women getting abortions? Yes or No? You were all ready to jump on Cruz, so are you now equally as upset with Trump? Do you now think Trump has gone on record supporting women getting abortions?

The very premise of your thread was just ridiculous and you must feel kinda foolish now that Trump retracted his statement and no longer believes that women should be punished. Granted it was a quick flip flop for Trump, can’t blame you for not expecting it to happen with such speed.

” What part of this do you see as being stupid or dishonest?”

I think it’s the part where he can’t come up with a rational answer.

When abortions are again illegal they will hire undercover entities to do it and go back to jumping off high places and sticking coat hangers into themselves. Will they still be “victims”? Victims of what or whom?

A woman who contracts another to kill her child is a murderer even though she hires another to do it.
