Any empirical slant you try to use simply doesn't apply any more, since over 60% of Trump's voters so far have been either Independent, Democrat cross-overs, or first-time voters. By the MILLIONS, and the trend is building, not decreasing.

Right. And even 8 years from now, I no longer believe Cruz should be next. Since Spring of 2015, too much has leaked out about Cruz’s affiliations, and Heidi’s. CFR was bad enough. But then to learn that she has spent several years at the top of the United States’ part of the group working to make Canada, United States and Mexico into a copy of the European Union.
With a common currency, open borders and open travel; Think how easily drugs could be transported with open borders and NO checking of travellers at all. And with not even a pretense of a southern border, all of Central and South America, and any cretin from anywhere on the planet would be free to swarm northward, go on welfare and have a dozen anchor babies. Not to mention terrorism and mayhem uncontrolled.
If Cruz’s campaign had taken off and rolled like he, Heidi and a bunch of globalists had planned, that couple would now be months away from being President and First Lady of The North American Union! Not just the United States. And it was all done in stealth, behind a facade of faux constitutionalist conservative smoke and mirrors.

As a spoiler, that's exactly what Cruz will do - throw the whole kit and kaboodle to Hillary as he wages his egotistical vendetta and tries to make deals that he will end up being betrayed on in the end - no winning path to the WH if he's successful and he and the other idiots will point fingers at trump instead of looking in the mirror.

I not so sure they do. Many of them cite the msm polls showing “Cruz beating Hillary”.

I have been saying for some time that Trump, as the nominee, will win in a landslide...of epic proportion. He will carry Pubs to the House and Senate who would otherwise lose if any other candidate were the nominee.
Trump appeals to those of us in either party who ‘feel/know that we are disenfranchised’. This number is growing among the populous, and many more will be there in his support to more than make up for the faux conservatives who say they will never vote for Trump. Eric Erickson is just one of many who comes to mind...

I liked Ted for VP for a while, but at this point I can only see Ted in a position where he cannot impact trade and immigration- maybe Attorney General with close monitoring from the top. Sadly, I have lost a lot of trust for Ted in recent weeks and it’s not my fault, it’s his.

That would mean that Cruz appeals to religious nuts and the minority of Cruz supporters on Free Republic.
Does Cruz have the crossover and independent support of Donald Trump? Nope. Trump brings more voters to the table.
