Same reason they didn’t manage to stop someone from blowing JFK’s head off, or stop that nut from almost shooting For, or stopped Hinkley (sp?) from getting a shot on Reagan.

They are humans, not machines.

Why didn’t the secret service stop her?

2nd attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford.

Sarah Jane Moore, a mentally unstable accountant, tried to assassinate Ford while he was in San Francisco.

Her attempt was thwarted by a bystander who instinctively grabbed Moore’s arm when she raised the gun. Although she fired one shot, it did not find its target.

The bystander, a former Marine and Vietnam veteran named Oliver Sipple, was publicly thanked by Ford three days later.

“Why did’t the secret service stop her?”

Why didn’t the SS stop the shooter from shooting President Reagan? Or Kennedy? Or...any and all attacks.

Was watching a Trump Town Hall...lot of people there...but only looked like maybe a half dozen security folks.

SS are good, but they are human too.
Not supermen.
