I think that Cruz might have gotten past this depending on what else comes out if they had just said, “Oh it is just the Enquirer, what do you expect?” The media would have just ignored it as they had already signaled they were going to do. Instead they made a massive big deal out of it. Now everyone is aware of it, and everyone is looking at it very closely.
What Cruz had to say is “I have never had an extra-marital affair”. If that isn’t true, he’s a total hypocrite because of the way he’s wrapped himself in holier-than-thou Christian values. For him, it’s disqualifying.
The media would have just ignored it as they had already signaled they were going to do.
Just like they did with Larry Craig.
