Some of my best friends are Trump supporters
American Thinker ^ | March 28, 2016 | Oleg Atbashian

Trump supporters are, perhaps, the only group of voters in this nation's history who have been so viciously and consistently maligned, and in such a coordinated manner, by both political parties. At the same time, not much is known about them, despite the recent spate of articles attempting to explain the phenomenon. The problem with that is that the authors admittedly don't know any of the Trump supporters themselves. Well, I happen to know quite a few of them personally.

Full disclosure: first, I can't vote because I'm not a U.S. citizen yet, despite my best and decades-long efforts -- but let's leave the immigration system's misplaced priorities for another day.

Second, I like to form my opinions about the candidates and their supporters independently, without taking advice from media pundits or Facebook messages from pro-Cruz acquaintances.

Third, I like both Cruz and Trump. I'm not as passionate about them as some; I'm merely pragmatic: I like anyone who can stop America's descent into socialism or, better yet, reverse the course entirely. I also realize that America has come to a point when having big ideas is no longer enough; in order to shake up the system and get the economy moving the next president must also be a bigger-than-life mover and shaker.

When you need a straight line, get two data points.

Man, not mine, they hate the guy. Swear there is no way they would ever vote for him.

I try to tell them that is a dangerous attitude but they hate the guy.

If only we could pull everyone together and get on the same team, but I don’t think that can happen. The well has been pissed in and nobody is drinking from it any longer.

I have no problems with Trump supporters. There are a lot of good reasons to support Trump, and I don't fault anyone for supporting him.

I just think Cruz is better for our long term goals.

I will be happy to support Trump if he wins the nomination.

I know however the sentence the poster posted is not even in the article. I read and reread the article several times

Kudos to you Kaslin for posting this as I know you are a staunch Cruz supporter.

From Jack (real name withheld):

The same establishment remained ineffective throughout the Obama presidency. Obama didn't threaten their careers and each one of his disastrous policies was to them a lucrative fundraising opportunity. In contrast, Trump threatens their very survival -- and suddenly the establishment's speed and effectiveness is phenomenal. Their quickly constructed #NeverTrump narrative is targeting conservative "purists" and die-hard Ted Cruz supporters, infecting them with hostility that reaches and surpasses the ill-famed Bush Derangement Syndrome.

The sad irony of the #NeverTrump movement is that these self-proclaimed "true conservatives" and "anti-establishment rebels" have swallowed the establishment's narrative hook, line, and sinker. Worse yet, they now indiscriminately share social media links from previously despised leftist sources, as long as they attack Trump. So much for their stereotyping of Trump supporters as gullible, angry jerks.

That nails it in a nutshell, and Cruz supporters need to realize this. Ted has aligned himself with the enemy, which has aided him only marginally.

Would not surprise me if the #NeverTrump PAC are the ones who really planted the story about Ted Cruz's extra-marital affairs. Using him on one end to slow down Trump, while simultaneously secretly attacking him, and creating a rift between the candidates and their supporters. Distracting all from the real issues. Because even a Hillary win benefits them.

Bottom line they, #NeverTrump PAC, are not really in your camp people.

You need to tell them that this election is important. America can withstand a Trump Presidency regardless of their feelings about Trump, but it may not withstand a Hillary or Bernie Presidential assault on this nation.

I don't believe that I would vote for Cruz or that I would not vote for him, but just so there is no misunderstanding. I will vote for him in the general election if he is the nominee, just as I would vote for Trump, if he is the nominee. I have always voted for the republican nominee and will continue to do so.

I can't think of any malignment that could hold a candle to the behavior I have observed first hand on FR.

Trust me, I have tried and tried. They hate the guy worse than they hate Clinton. I’ve never seen anything like it.

DT is not my first choice, for sure, but as I have said repeatedly I will crawl through a mile of broken liberals to mark the circle next to his name if it is on the ballot this November (as an R, that is).

Excellent read. Thanks for posting.

I work with Russians and I can tell you their passion for America and for capitalism is amazing. They seem more American than my American friends. Plus, they have the added advantage of having seen communism firsthand and see the parallels to what’s happening today in the USA in our inexorable slide toward socialism.

Well, it was a long article :). I assure you it was a simple copy and paste. See if you can find it in this paragraph:

Doesn't this also describe how the majority of Americans have felt in recent decades, being constantly shamed into silence by the “progressive” media, education, and the cultural establishment? I know this too well, having worked in New York's “progressive” corporate environment. My co-workers would ask me about life in the USSR and I would tell them exactly what I thought about socialism and political correctness until I realized that most of them didn't like my answers and I was only hurting myself by speaking my mind. Some gave me frightened looks, others stopped talking with me. I might as well have told them that life in the USSR was similar to life in New York, where people had to learn to keep their mouths shut and to look over their shoulders before saying anything remotely political. So much for emigrating into a free country. It felt like history was about to repeat itself. Until now.

"Yeah, so will I."

That's because you guys are reasoned and rational.

But the problem is not unlike the problem faced by Goldwater. The party luminaries and the entire Conservative Orthodoxy have so vehemently derided the front runner that they cannot backtrack...

They are now so invested in those positions that they will continue through November, thus risking the election.

I don't believe it's possible to bridge the chasm.

However, Trump is able to bring in a new group into the electorate along with Independents and some Democrats.

Let's hope it's enough. Because most of the people who are now dedicated to Cruz or the GOPe will not turn out for him. They would rather see everything burn to the ground under Hillary.

I don’t know about that. I see many comments that individuals prefer Cruz, but would also support Trump. Is the opposite the case? Would Trump supporters vote for “Lying Ted.”
