German troops committed many atrocities against Belgian civilians during WWI which was documented in a book I recently read "German Atrocities 1914: A History of Denial" by Home and Kramer.

Yes, the Belgians held the Germans off longer than expected in WWI. In WWII they did just like everyone else. The Germans did perform a brilliant raid and capture of Fort Eban Emael which really demoralized the Belgians.
