MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -
Memphis police are investigating a person with several guns at Bellevue Baptist Church.
Police said security told them they saw a man in the sanctuary who was carrying multiple guns.
Officers arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody without incident.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Easter service at Bellevue Baptist continued as planned.
Bellevue Baptist tweeted the following statement regarding the incident:

All of these are my thoughts exactly. Waiting on follow up.
Even with a carry permit, the “multiple guns” part does raise suspicion.
Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean we disregard obviously suspicious behavior. I’m all for being armed in church for reasonable defense (I attend a mega church); someone prepared for offense invokes condition orange.
The guy had a death wish if he started something in a church in the South. I would be willing to bet there were many people there who were armed and ready to stop him.
