TEXAS senator Ted Cruz is embroiled in a sex scandal befitting the bizarre nature of the current the Republican race for the presidential nomination.
An angry Cruz has accused “Donald Trump and his henchmen” of feeding the National Enquirer a salacious story claiming the conservative Christian politician has had extramarital affairs with five different women.
“This National Enquirer story is garbage. It is complete and utter lies,” Cruz snapped after a campaign stop in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Friday.
“It is a tabloid smear, and it is a smear that has come from Donald Trump and his henchmen.”
The supermarket tabloid did not identify them by name, but published pixelated headshots of the women with black bars across their eyes.
The women were described as a hooker, a teacher, and co-workers.
Cruz also took to Facebook this morning to slam the allegations.
“These smears are completely false, they’re offensive to Heidi and me, they’re offensive to our daughters, and they’re offensive to everyone Donald continues to personally attack,” he posted.
“Donald Trump’s consistently disgraceful behaviour is beneath the office we are seeking and we are not going to follow.”
Despite his efforts the squash the story, the hashtag #CruzSexScandal has been the top trending hashtag on Twitter this morning, adding to the candidate’s woes.

Yes, it is. And the amusing thing is that the shit splatter is coming back to foul the Trump campaign. The Trump folks didn’t expect THAT to be the result when they were working with Trump’s long-time friend David Pecker (National Enquirer’s CEO) to get this smear attempt published.

Oh, and as I said up thread, if the story is true it won't matter much as to the political fate of Ted Cruz. He would be finished.
HOWEVER, if the story is false and it could be linked to Trump...Trump his own self would be finished.

If the story is false and it's linked to Trump, even obliquely, Trump would be finished.
If the story is true...it won't matter where it came from.
Cruz would be finished.

The story has been kicking around for at least six months, allegedly being shopped by Rubio’s people.
But without confirmation from someone involved the other press outlets wouldn’t run with it. They knew the rumors but chose not to publicize them.

Trump has made no secret of being good friends with the owner of the National Enquirer. And NE gives good press to Trump.
But Roger Stone denies being the source of the story. He says that the story has been circulating for months and came from the Rubio campaign, whose people were shopping it around to all sorts of news outlets. A lot of people had heard the rumors from the Rubio camp but without some sort of proof no one chose to run with it.
The question now is whether NE has managed to find some evidence or is just running with a rumor.
As a candidate they really can’t file suit, stupid but true.
