To briefly summarize: A small organization of citizens with the sole purpose of stopping Donald Trump paid for online ads that used a publicly available photograph of Trump's wife to attack him. Trump responded by incorrectly attributing the ads to Cruz and then attacking Cruz's wife, a message that reached an exponentially larger number of people than the targeted Facebook ads. Cruz defended his wife, defended Trump's wife, and denounced the original ad, with which he had nothing to do. Trump responded to this by tweeting out to his millions of followers an unflattering photo of Cruz's wife. And Trump supporters have either tacitly approved of Trump's attack or ignored it.
The whole episode was the equivalent of a Red Sox fan heckling a Yankees pitcher from the stands and the pitcher in turn throwing a fastball right into the Red Sox batter's face. There's no equivalence here. There's no "Trump-Cruz feud" over each other's wives. The anti-Trump super PAC may have "started" the fight, but the responsibility for escalating the attacks to beyond the bounds of decency falls, as it often has in this election, on Trump and Trump alone.

“If I had a dollar for every time someone has said, Well, Trump has finally done it...”

Poor guy just can’t help himself...so much anger, so little self control...and, we want to entrust this chucklehead with the nucular codes? I don’t think so!
#unstablepettytyrantTrump
Did you ever hear rush talk about the Limbaugh theorem, do something and blame someone else. I see Cruz doing this...”I know nothing it was a pac”. We’ve seen this a few times now. Learned from Obama maybe?
All women have known guys like Trump in their dating life (well, maybe not all women but) Trumps basically a jerk who thinks that very few women measure up to what they really deserve.
No woman is allowed to ever have a bad day, look anything less than perfect and always, always be ready, willing and able to respond to their every whim!
These over age boys believe that they personify the ideal man whom all women secretly desire; they brag incessantly about their conquests, and never, ever stay with any woman that reaches the "past their sale date!"
The Globalist Hacks at the “Establishment Standard” trying to control the narrative by lying to their readers.
EVERYONE KNOWS Cruz started this by attacking Trump’s family.
Trump will always retaliate if you attack him.
Cruz campaign messed with the Bull, and now they are getting the horns.
I don’t really understand your last sentence, but I wonder, why is it ok that Cruz did not immediately denounce the ad done by the PAC (even though Cruz did not place the ad), but it is NOT ok that Trump didn’t immediately denounce David Duke’s endorsement?
there was a post here with neil cavuto interviewing a cruz staffer. she stated melania does not qualify to be first lady becasue of her character “shes foreign born, posed nude, several other things.” this was on march 8 almost three weeks ago. neil was taken aback a bit
I smell desperation on Trump’s part.
Agreed. This gutter broadcasting is enhancing neither campaign. This is one bone not easily swallowed by most voters. Entertaining for the many (voters and non-voters), it is corrosive and will in time cumulative damage those involved.
You see, that's it. I attacked megyn, not you; but you attack me, using a diminutive name-call, plus an accusation of something resembling paranoia.
My counterpunch goes like this: you tedheads have no idea how unelectable Cruz is.
I say this as a person for whom Cruz is the most perfect candidate, from my perspective, that I have ever seen in all my years. However, I am smart enough to know how much Constitutional originalists (like myself) are despised by a large majority in this country, and how much Evangelical, Pentecostal (?) Christians (like myself), who believe viscerally that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, and that those who reject Him have chosen hell, and who believe in Creationism, and who believe that the prospect of Armageddon looming ahead is very definite and certain -- that, too, is despised by at least 75% of the electorate, who want no such person anywhere near the Presidency. That is why Cruz is highly unelectable. Too bad. In fact, we have never had a true, evangelical president, nor Supreme Court Justice for that matter; how much more, with the present humanistic ethos that pervades this country, will we not get one at this time, either.
And that is why I am supporting Trump, despite my affinity for Cruz.
The issue is who started it-Cruz did (or to be more precise, the Cruz supporting SuperPac did)
“His ongoing fight with Megyn Kelly and his fight with Cruz over the wives should embarrass him.’
Trump’s a democrat.
He doesn’t have the ability to be embarrassed.
He’s just like Nancy Pelosi. She can make what to a normal person is the most absolutely stupid statement but instead of being embarrassed she actually believes it’s a profound statement.
“Donald needs to learn when to let things go.”
The Donald is vindictive, has to do with his mental instability and his personality disorder, he cannot or will not let things go including imaginary slights.
I disagree with your implicit assumption that I think it was wrong of Trump not to denounce the non-existent Duke endorsement, especially since Trump had just disavowed Duke expressly just two days before.
He finally tweeted this:
Donald J. Trump

I have no idea whether or not the cover story about Ted Cruz in this weeks issue of the National Enquirer is true or not, but I had absolutely nothing to do with it, did not know about it, and have not, as yet, read it.
Likewise, I have nothing to do with the National Enquirer and unlike Lyin Ted Cruz I do not surround myself with political hacks and henchman and then pretend total innocence. Ted Cruzs problem with the National Enquirer is his and his alone, and while they were right about O.J. Simpson, John Edwards, and many others, I certainly hope they are not right about Lyin Ted Cruz.
I look forward to spending the week in Wisconsin, winning the Republican nomination and ultimately the Presidency in order to Make America Great Again.
- Donald J. Trump
Yes, because Republicans are supposed to stand there and take it, apologize and then disappear. This has been the rulebook for decades.
Sure, what you say is obviously possible, but we can't prove a negative, can we? And it surely is also possible that Cruz really didn't have anything to do with this, and that it really was just a Trump-hating group acting on it's own. Right?
I'd say that "maybe" or "it's possible" that Cruz was responsible is not enough to excuse deliberately and openly attacking the wife of another candidate. In fact, i'm not sure if that's the appropriate respinse in any case.
Especually since this whole episode has made Trump himself look worse.
Bueve it or not, though I don't like Trump at all, I do believe he is going to be the nominee, and I do want to see him beat Hillary.
So him continuing to do stupid stuff and say stupid things that are only going to hurt him in the general election is enormously frustrating. Had he done this stuff a Fe months ago when it might have mattered in the nomination, I'd be laughing. No, it just makes me sick to my stomach and embarrassed that this is the clown we'll end up nominating.
Ted is many things, but stud is not the first word that comes to mind.
